Not my AM Adventure, but need to be shared none the less. All you Specialized freaks will love it too. Enjoy.

I like. A lot. No over-the-top AM stylin, and arguably a ride that could be done on a rigid MTB. But awesome nonetheless, and even though I'm no specialized fan, his bike looks the goods.

My guess is this ride is in the Chilcotins, BC. I've read about many trips to be had up there which involve heading out in a seaplane and riding back to base. Here is a link to one which seems to include more above-the-treeline stuff: http://reviews.mtbr.com/the-mighty-chilcotins-3-day-rides-for-you-to-choose-from

Yeah one of my favourite AM videos. Kind of somes up what AM is to me. Granted you could do it on a rigid.... or any MTB bike for that matter. But that video distills down everything I consider AM riding.

BTW anyone got any similar type of rides one could do here on our east coast. Most of the overnighters I can find any info on require more dirt road slogging then sweet flowing singletrack. Also finding a nice overnighter that is a loop so one could do it solo is doubly hard.

Cheers.

Nice video, had a bit of a '127 Hours' feel to it though...

Yes I'm very keen to find something like this on the east coast too!

That looks like a magical weekend!

Would definitely love to get out and do something like that here in Tassie. (Once it's warmer and drier)

Just back from a few weeks in Europe, riding. A few days riding surprisingly good trails around Zurich. https://picasaweb.google.com/dmorgs/DaveJooEuro2011#5621141475747408818 as a bit of a warm up, then down to Morzine to do the Passé Porte du Soleil event then another week riding about there, Les Gets, Champery, Morgins etc etc. Brilliant riding of every description.
Thanks for this. I'm meeting a friend to ride Morzine at the end of this month, and it's a great help to see stuff like this.

To add some content, we did a trip last year in the USA, started in LA and ended in Denver. Some pics:

Rim trail, Tahoe:

Camping, keep it tidy, and food in the bear lockers:

Looking back at Mammoth summit:

A view from Gooseberry Mesa:

Lunch loops (IIRC), across from gooseberry:

It's sometimes sparsely populated, but you can always get the essentials:

Somewhere around Brian Head:

Another trail outside Brian Head, riding along the ridges was awesome:

Early morning slickrock:

A bit later:

Getting warm:

Warmer still:

The "whole enchilada" was one of the best rides of the holiday (a view):

Further down, you flew down these old jeep trails:

Up on the Monarch Crest ride (this is about 12000 ft), we took the shorter descent down starvation creek to salida, and it was great:

Absolute Cycles there has the most unbelievable collection of older stuff I've ever seen, and were really cool too. I'm not much of a snapper, some of the stuff I really enjoyed, for example Downieville, and most of Colorado (like Crested Butte), I never remembered to get shots of.

You'd definitely very likely to find some nice overnighter singletrack in Tassie. I did all of my early MTB biking in tassie in the 90s. When I'm down there again over Xmas I'm certainly going to check out some of the stuff down the southwest, cause there is still large areas of state forest there with old logging roads that break out onto high ridges, so an overnighter there would be doable. No doubt there is stuff here on the great dividing, but I don't know the "mainland" as well as I do southern Tassie. :single_eye:

Cheers.

Then a brief call into Aosa/Pila. The xc stuff was a bit dud dish, but the park is awesome riding, and there is an awesome 11km DH to the bottom of the valley. Not a groomed DH course, but more natural terrain.
Then over to Livigno for a week of guided rides and a week by ourselves.

The trails there are maily all above about 1800m, thebhighest pass we crossed was 3007 metros and thebhighest start point 3011m.
Awesome arising to be had there. Both on Nomads, but they've morphed into different beasts.
Happy bikes https://picasaweb.google.com/dmorgs/DaveJooEuro2011#5628557885276996946
Planning to do this in 2012. How did you get on with accommodation over the 3days? Did u book a package?

Awesome pics guys - not sure if you remember, we had a brief chat on the Champery cable car. I was on a Blur LT, mate on a Nomad too. Have been a bit lazy sorting my pics and video's from the trip, will have to get onto it with some pics. Meanwhile here's a video http://youtu.be/65PMfAnNegU
Glad to hear you got a buzz from the Passportes as well. We didn't get to Pila but heard many great stories about it, on next year's to do list for sure!

Arranged things ourselves. Morzine was the town of choice, especially having seen the other places now. Champery is deadset dead, and expensive. Morgins is nice, but again pretty quiet and in Switzerland so expensive and accomodation choices are limited. Chatel is pretty cool, good pubs, but a bit quiet and limited bike shop choices. The bike park is excellent though. Les Gets is cool, but pretty quiet, Morzine has enough size to have a great choice of accomodation, a few supermarkets and plenty of places to avoid the crowds, and a lift up both sides.
We hired a chalet for the week, most accomodation is only able to be booked for a week, Saturday to Saturday. It was cheap though, an 8 bed chalet for $140 each for the week. We booked through mountainhighs.co.uk and was an easy way to arrange things as they can access chalets that don't advertise themselves, so saves a bit there as well.

Hey, yeh. You mainly had a yarn to Ben and Mel I think? https://picasaweb.google.com/dmorgs/DaveJooEuro2011#5638413626929596354
What an awesome day! And the rest of the week for that matter. Nice vid, that was a very cool run, we took the bottom half as a non short cut on the run into Champery, well worth the diversion though.

Yep, the optional DH route into Champery was probably the highlight of the day. Nice mountain stream to cool off, just not the sort of track to catch a pedal in bits or go sideways on a greasy root. Happy days, 4 days in the area was not enough, your trip looks to have been a decent length. Roll on 2012!

I believe the Bicentennial National Trail has some sections which would be awesome for multi-day trips. There's guy, sometimes on here, also sometimes over on MTBR, called Wild Wassa - he rides sections of the BNT quite often and some of the photos sure look like it'd be an awesome adventure. If you could use him as a resource I reckon you'd encounter hundreds of kms worth of pretty special trail. He particularly loves Victorians, and holds a special place for them in his heart, so just pretend you're from down here if you're not, and you'll get along fine.

Awesome trip there placebo. My wife and I are doing the exact opposite to you - landing in Denver (after 10 days in BC) and taking 3 weeks to get to LA before heading home. Leaving early Sept. Planning to visit the Butte, Fruita, Moab, Flagstaff, Sedona & hopefully Tahoe for riding spots, plus lots of sightseeing along the way (including a drive up Pikes Peak, only slower than Monster Tajima I'm sure). I'll take some photos of the 401 trail for ya since you forgot

check out this place http://www.thelodgemorzine.com/ we stayed there for 4 nights. price was reasonable though a mate paid and I owe him lots of beers when he comes to Sydney. some of the staff ride, good pizza's in the bar plus they put on a BBQ on the Sunday. also a jet wash round the back for bike cleaning and post-ride fettling.

You can't go wrong. Crested Butte was so good, just a cruisy bike town, 401 is great, Doctor Park trail too. I could've spent the whole trip in Colorado. Tahoe and surrounds like Northstar are spectacular too.
