There has been more speculation about this topic than anything EVER before. I find it totally hilarious.

I heard he was signing for Orange next year...

Nah, your all wrong. Commencal!!

Seriously though, if his contract is up he will be talking to everyone who approaches him. Good luck to him with whatever team he ends up on. Whatever bike it is he will still be damn quick.

What I hate about spec. is that they use all this rebranded crap. There whole bike line was formed on the theory of specializing or some crap I read in a magazine. If this is true wouldn't they spec components from specialist companies. Thomson post and stem, a real shock manufacture. Mavic wheels... But they're cheap and only care about making money.

Now on sam hill. Good for him if he wants more money and he can get it from specialized. Nothing wrong with that. In fact, as arguably the best rider in the world I think it he deserves to go with with the best possible pay check.

Where It bothers me is now the ignorant masses will suddenly need that new incredible specialized when really they offer nothing (if not less) then almost all the competition.

Good day to you all :)

Ahh thank god this seems to be only a rumour/speculation! Because when I heard it today at school I nearly grabbed a kids plastic fork that he was eating his lasagne with to stab myself in the kidney.

... believes in the product, and he has integrity and loyalty to the people who pay him...... he's not bailing on anyone....

...he could not promote a product he did not feel was worthy...

Struggling with why so many people whinging about Sam not riding more in the Australian National series... Do any of you follow other professional sports???? How many times have you seen Mark Webber returning to australia to race V8 Supercars? Or Andrew Bogart playing in the NBL? Or Harry Kewell playing A-League? This is not a new thing in professional sports..
And if you really want to see him ride in Australia, we have a WC this month.. GO SEE THE BEST!

For the 2008 National Championships, 32 riders from WA entered, or 4.0% of the total riders at the Champs. WA makes up 9.8% of the Australian population - and WA riders made up 6.5% of the MTBA members in-date at the time of those championships. So, yes, the WA riders were statistically under-represented at the 2008 Champs. But its not like no one from WA turned up because they couldn't afford the travel.

AFAIK, WA last hosted a National Series round in 05/06 - which was well attended by the East Coast riders.
Thanks! A Man (or Woman? never know on the forums) with the facts!
I don't race so I don't know, and didn't think many would make the trip either way, apart from maybe a one off race.

I only moved over here this year, which is a shame as it would only have been a 7hr drive to Canberra to watch the racing at Stromlo!
Now that there is such big backing for the sport in Canberra I'm not sure what it means for WA, I imagine we would have to get a lot more recognition by councils and govt backing for it to really take off.

I live in the town where those 05/06 Nats were held, and in a lot of ways it's a shame that Tourism or Councils don't use the existence of those trails as a draw card and market it a bit more, particularly with the Munda Biddi coming through here as well. It's a shame, even trails like the Munda Biddi aren't that publicized in a local regard. Well I doubt if even 1% of the town would have known when the last state round DH came was going to be held here, I certainly wouldn't have known if I hadn't visited the Perth mtb clubs website.

Quoted for truth.

Also;

Chad Reed didn't turn up to last round of the National Supercross and smoke everyone by a couple of laps, he's such an elitist...

Casey Stoner isn't racing Australian Superbikes this year, what, does he think he's too good for it???

Willie Mason didn't turn out for the Canterbury Bankstown reserves and spear tackle someone to death, the injustice!

If you think Sam hasn't paid enough dues to be able to pick and choose his races over the off season you're sadly mistaken. Please give it a rest or this thread will have to be closed.

I think its quite amusing how some people stick up for sam not attending any national races. then go on with how his team isn't there and so therefore he shouldn't have to attend.

I don't have respect for him when all the other aussie pro's make the effort to go to atleast a couple of rounds. Considering this series was what started their career its the least they could do as help promote the sport by attend the races. While Rennie, Rando, amiel and Bryn may not win every race they go in but atleast they support the series and make the effort by going to nearly all the races while graves and kovarik make a fair effort and get to atleast a couple too.

How can a pro not support the sport that supports them.

can we have a poll and that will settle the debate?

Dude, racers aren't making millions of dollars. As people in the know have said, he has to fund this himself, and from WA it would costs thousands of dollars to attend each race.

Those other riders attend the races because they NEED the points. If you had a choice between spending thousands of dollars to get to a race not having any support (mechanical or otherwise) and being in the spotlight OR taking it easy back home with family and friends, riding your local trails with your mates, what would you do??

How can a pro not support the sport that supports them.
Mate, he's done a lot for the sport already. He's an inspiration to many young and old riders and you can bet that he's already put more back in than he's taken out.

Are you actually being serious, or just stirring the pot?

As I stated before, Sam did attend an Australian National Series race, the one held in Mt Beauty, Victoria (in early Feb, I think it was). I think it was round 3 of the series. And as I said before, that exercise cost him nearly $2000. He spent 3-4 days in the locality, going to LDS before and after the race to do meet-and-greet with the locals. He also attended a novelity night ride that was held just prior to (or may have been just after) the Mt Beauty round. So your accusation he did not attend any races, and does not put in, is inaccurate. You're not being made to like him, but don't go about writing things that are untrue.

Sam is not paid as much as people assume, and he can't afford to attend every Eastern States race. It's that simple.

I dont think people expect him to travel to every round but the aussie titles are a whole new story.
