PERTH KIDS.What up all, latest Alleycat organised by Fasta Simon!!!!

Pulled this off his blog Fantastic Pistachio

FANTASTIC PISTACHIO: JUNGLECAT!

And FB Event here: https://www.facebook.com/?ref=home#!/event.php?eid=237431726277839

Graphic by Scott Angel

Time for a race. This will be the kind of course the likes of which you will have never experienced before. It will focus on the abundant number of seldom used laneways in the areas of North Perth, Northbridge, East Perth and Mt Lawley. The race will finish in a mystery location in ML where you will find a party so wild it can only surpass that of JUNGLECAT!
The photos above are a preview of what you can expect and more! Video preview coming soon!
Regular roads shall link the rugged laneways of JUNGLECAT. I have ridden the course with 23c tyres and it is do-able. However, to get the most out of this I recommend using 28-32c or wider! Some lights wouldn't hurt either! Ride in pairs or a group, whatever!

More updates to follow soon!

BEERS INSTEAD OF GEARS VELODROME RIDE

DATE NOW CONFIRMED AT: Saturday, September 3 · 9:00am - 7:00pm MEET POINT AT 9AM YET TO BE DECIDED.

henri (that's me!) recently made the trip to collie for business and managed to do scope the collie 'drome, turns out its totally rideable!! (few potholes.....aint no thang!) So, the event is not set in stone, so far this is just to see how much interest there is as it is a 2.5 hour drive s/e of perth. there are two options: we can all chip in and hire a bus/vans and pile humans and bikes into it or drive cars (2 bikes, 2 peeps per car).

thinking if we head down at about nine am and stay until we can no longer see! bring bbq, beers, tunes and make a day of it!

the date can be changed to accommodate maximum numbers if needed.

please post up ideas for logistics, food, music, race formats and general hooliganism that is B.I.G!

CHEERS!

Alight so sorry for the wait, I’ve been busy with things not important to you. Obviously I’ve already thanked everybody so I won’t do that again, but for the people too soft, lazy and/or busy to come, whatever the reason may be here’s a little of what you missed out on.

Map, with marked points. Printed on A4 Colour this made up part of what riders received at the start point, which is also marked on the map.

These instructions were A4 and were printed on the other side of the map, also in colour.

These slips were given to out by the check pointers, at the checkpoints. Each colour code was approximately a 1/3 of an A4 sheet of paper and also printed in colour.

All you had to do is go to the question mark to get questions and then answer the question by going to the coloured star. Not overly hard I thought, but apparently not, as I had to explain. I think everyone was alright once that happened, but if not, tough luck – colours aren’t usually that confusing. Some people were also confused by some of the riddles, some not so much. With 56 maps handed out, we had 28 finishers, the rest turned up sporadically and with longnecks.
The Finish point was also not marked on the map. The location of the end point was revealed when you went to the black question mark.

Here are our winners (all who got a dodgy medal made by myself):
Overall Male:
1st – Henri took home a Skingrowsback toptube pad, knog skink light set, Bikes Move Us T-shirt and a Big gold Hell on Wheels Sticker!

2nd – Tom took home a lovely BO gear Love handle, Bikes Move Us T-shirt, Focale 44 pedal straps and a big white Hell on Wheels sticker. Tom was one of our RAD sponsors and had donated the Hell on Wheels and Focale 44 stuff!

3rd – Nath/Jerk (he asked for it to be written) took home Knog Gloves and a Skin Grows Back U-lock holder.

Overall Female:

1st – Michelle was lucky to take home Focale 44 bar and stem combo, Candy Cranks chainring, Big Gold Hell on Wheels Sticker and the yellow malliot jaune (yellow Hell on Wheels t-shirt)

2nd – Sarah went home happy with a nice big white Hell on Wheels Sticker and Blue T-shirt, Skin Grows Back pouch and a set of Strap ons (By BO Gear ;) )

3rd – Haidee got an awesome tube repair patch kit from knog, and a set of Knog leather gloves.

Most correct – Male and Female. These are the heroes of the night, correctly answering all the questions and the riddle. Getting the Most correct prize (must to the dismay of the boys from Wollongong)
Haidee and Alex both received a Knog cycling hat and T-shirt!

Dead FUCKING LAST went to Dean and James – for their efforts they received a $100 cycling express gift voucher!

With extra prizes to be given out, I challenged anyone to ride across the water feature and back again. First two would receive a Knog light set. Henri jumped at the opportunity shortly followed by Nat.

I still had a bunch of BO gear pouches and Porno Patches (by Knog) which I distributed among my excellent checkpointer’s! Thank you Nat, Nick, Justin, Felix, Andy and Jarod.

Following the recent success of Simon & Kaspar's JUNGLECAT, the B.I.G guys have decided to put together a little Alleycat for everyone...

The B.I.G High Roller Poker-Cat is a combination of your traditional Checkpoint Race with a side of Poker thrown in!

That way if you ain't the fastest or are the drunkest, or stuck riding a trick ratio, you are still gonna have a chance at walking away with a prize - and believe me, they will be... decent, we're talking a Frame/Wheelset + a host of other swag!

This race is friendly to all bikes and styles of riders of all abilities!

Bring your mates, bring your lady - there will be ladies prizes too. WE DON'T KNOW EVERYONE WHO RIDES A BIKE IN PERTH SO PLEASE INVITE ALL YOUR BIKE ORIENTATED FRIENDS YEAH?

It's gonna be an arvo Race - haven't had a race in daylight in ages and come end of september it should be nice and warm for it.

The deets:
Date - Sat Sep 24
Time - 1pm Rego, 2pm Race
Meet Point - TBC - will probably be a Park in the city area
Cost - $10 for Blokes, $5 for Ladies

It's only early days - but current sponsors include: (in no particular order, without even going local yet!)

GEAR Brisbane www.gearbrisbane.com
BO Gear www.bogear.com.au
Grand Scheme www.grandscheme.com.au
Saint Cloud www.saintcloud.com.au
Bike Jam https://www.facebook.com/groups/BikeJam/
Dismantle www.dismantle.org.au

If you are from a Local Bike Store or Shop and would like to sponsor this event, please contact either Henri or Marty (Event Admins).

We are going to need a couple of checkpointers - so please if you are keen put your hand up! We would also love you to do a little bit of filming on the day! AND we will be hooking you guys up as thanks for your efforts and supporting us!!

Hey all,

Looking at getting a fixie/single speed to get from the city to uni (UQ).

I don't hae time to build one up so it's gotta be pre-built and cheap.

First - thoughts on how suitable a fixie would be?

Second - thought's on these: singlespeedcycles.com.au
nuskeonline.com?

Third - any other ideas? I'm aiming for around the 400$ mark, though less would be amazing. I suspect I won't be able to get anything too good for that money but it just needs to work well and consistently. I don't mind secondhand either - in fact, if I can get a more expesie bike for less because it's second hand, I'm all for it.

Cheers

scotty- the visp is great frame for the price, very light, and looks good imo (people will disagree)

twchikn- if your comfortable with riding a fixie (try one out if you havent) then i would highly recommend it. even though you said you dont have the time building one up is a good idea.

i need new foot straps, any suggestions? im after some freestyle type ones.

ok...

A) Yes, buy the visp. I'm building up my old visp for my girlfriend. they are a great budget frame! and fairly bombproof... mine copped heaps of abuse.

B) dont go either singlespeed bicyles or whatever... if you are gonna buy an off the shelf fixed gear, for $400 beans, get one off CELL Bikes.. best value for money out of all the cheap completes!

C) SkinGrowsBack - I highly recommend those straps. Also Holdfasts, BO Gear, whatever - all good!

I've got some fixie parts to move on if anyone's interested, just gotta get around to putting up a FS thread.

A couple of wheelsets, crank and BB, couple of seats, bars stems, and some levers, oh and a pair of forks. Pretty much half the parts off a couple of mongoose completes. :p
All new and unused, keep an eye out for the thread!

Thread?

Also, on the lookout for a new frame, 55-58cm, horizontal dropouts if anyone's got something they want to offload. Alternatively, can anyone give me a weight on a Mercier Kilo TT? Looking at getting one shipped from the U.S but need a weight to decide whether it's viable.
