Have you watched Altered Carbon? Not movie, but I couldn't find the TV thread.
Bit of a Bladerunner/Chinatown mash up, but done very, very well, production is top notch, which is normally lacking in scifi of either TV or movies.
Some pretty well intergrated nods to Empire Strikes Back, Highlander, Metropolis, Seven Samurai, Total Recall, 5th Element and various manga. Done subtly enough to not pull you out of the story, more of a sly wink than a Stranger Things nudge with a sledgehammer.
Add to that some quality boob, quim, and the odd todger, to cover all the bases, it'd have to be one of the best scifi series in a Meth's age.
Often, Netflix's reliance on cheap, exploitable, non union, non US talent, for its in house productions results in some very wooden performances (I'm looking at you, The Expanse series 2) but the direction must have been top notch here, because aside from the odd stumble from Dichen Lackman (how anyone can be simultaneously bland and melodramatic is beyond my ken) and couple of wanky bit parts like the VR techs, most the performances are spot on, particularly the leads. Not an a-lister amongst the cast, and I'd even go as far as to say, Joel Kinnamann almost redeems his butchering of Robo Cop and Rick Flag. The highlight performances though, are Poe, and Vernon Elliot's gravestone comic relief.
7.8/9 would bang. What Ghost in the Shell should have been.
