Have to agree on this one. I'm betting the trails 10 years ago aren't that much different to what there is now. Pick a bike that suits where you plan to ride most of the time. 130mm to 140mm seems to be the standard for regular old trail riding. A Spitfire is a solid all-rounder and would love to have one also. Shorter travel 29" 100mm XC bikes or HT's are still out there if that is your thing.Don't get "overbiked", a sad trend that is pushed by the media hype. So many people buying huge, big, long, slack descent slaying animals only to be left a pig dog of a trail bike. Don't do it, unless you are uberfit, happy to push to the limit or just like making things hard on yourself.
EBIKE!I had no idea you can order a bike direct... just had a look at Canyon and YT, are there any others? Not sure about the 4 month wait time from Canyon though...
I think I'm looking around the 140mm travel range and less than $4000...
I'm currently living in a not very hilly country so something easy to pedal too...
Both of those sports have gone motor assisted too...but seriously, you are probably better off going with a cheaper hobby/sport pursuit like off shore ocean racing or Redbull Air Raid, as bikes have become quite the commodity!
Brilliant! Will add:Dont even worry about mountain biking. The import stuff you have missed, just to list a few:

Possibly the best thread I have ever witnessed.Jehovah's witnesses at my door and the evolution of boobies
That's nothing a better and more expensivebike won't fix!I still suck. So that hasn’t changed.
Maybe the best thread but best Minlak's post in the fuckwit thread is best of all time for me!Possibly the best thread I have ever witnessed.
it was a classic, but the neck brace thread with old mate Jarrod the Maths Guy, and his rigorous anecdotal 'scientifical' evidence (sample size n=1) and "yeah but, what sound does a dog or cow make" and other exquisite and excruciating rantings, was straight from the Methamphetamine school of Zen.Possibly the best thread I have ever witnessed.h but
