Coming home today, Maianbar Drive - a white tailed (black shouldered) kite landed in a tree next to the road. Jammed the brakes & swung back - utterly magnificent, but camera shy.

Awesome bird, I've seen plenty of sea eagles but never this kite. Are they common?

Have you ever seen or heard a Whistling Kite. The whistling sound they make is unreal. A pair were living in a tree next to the Patonga Pub years ago. Magic to watch Kites glide on the winds.

All I’m sayin is it used to be easy to spot a gangly 29...then they sorted geo etc....that just looks like wheels are too big. The 27.5 version was a handsome beast. Like Sam.

How big? We have various eagles and kites and hawks. The kites tend to be quite small by comparison.

Little hard to tell from the photo but it looks like a Nankeen Kestrel.
