Thanks for all the bananas
It's OK if you've got a 50T+ rear cog but I'm stuck on 46T!
Haha chunt. You've got to search for the 'women's' version if you want 30T '
I’m right with you. Now I’m old I have 30 up front with 10-46. Felix on the other hand won’t let me fit smaller than 34 with his 10-46. Cuss that. It's OK if you've got a 50T+ rear cog but I'm stuck on 46T!
I quite like the idea of the 11-50 Advent X with a 30T SLX chainset.I’m right with you. Now I’m old I have 30 up front with 10-46. Felix on the other hand won’t let me fit smaller than 34 with his 10-46. Cuss that.
It was only about 7 years ago I thought I was doing it easy with 36 and 11-36 (after progressing from 11-32). My eyes water these days thinking about such nonsense.30T all the way with my builds.
It's the 50T out back that defines gender.
Phew, lucky I've got a 51T not a "girly" 50T!It's the 50T out back that defines gender.
Couldn't believe when I used to ride 34:34 that people wanted 42t cassettes. Then I got one, and couldn't believe that people wanted 50t. Then I got one.It was only about 7 years ago I thought I was doing it easy with 36 and 11-36 (after progressing from 11-32). My eyes water these days thinking about such nonsense.
About a 13-15% gradient (for a few minutes) in my case. It is fireroad, but a fine layer of granitic sand over hardpack makes traction for standing/mashing pretty limited so seated grind is normally the most "efficient" choice. That's with a 32t chainring and 27.5x2.5 rear tyre. 29ers I normally run 30t as the ratios feel about the same as 32t on a 27.5. Only exception for me has been the 29er XC bike - it has a 34t as it's just light and enthusiastic to climb and like @Isaakk says won't run out of legs of flat fireroad or bikepaths. How steep are you guys climbing?
For me, barely claimable, but the eagle guys fare no better. How steep are you guys climbing?
To be honest, the 50t helps mostly with traction more than legs. Often it means you can climb the steeper shorter pinches seated that you'd otherwise end up walking because getting out of the saddle to stomp a harder gear would just see you spinning the rear wheel and toppling over. There's not much around in the way of sustained climbs that are also steep enough to necessitate it, though there'd be some bits of fireroad in the Dandenongs/Red Hill that would top 15-20% without much trouble. How steep are you guys climbing?
42-36 on the hardtail here! Harden up!It's OK if you've got a 50T+ rear cog but I'm stuck on 46T!
And the range on the Zerode?42-36 on the hardtail here! Harden up!
(Due to the lack of hills... )
Try 100m in a quarter of a km.Given my big climb is up the hill to ride, about 100m elevation over ~7km, I've really little understanding of how these mega range cassettes work. Is this stuff significantly steeper/longer/bigger than you used to climb without the pizza trays? Or did you have the shameful triple front?
I do sometimes ride up the fire road at ourimbah, well not for a long time actually. Even if I could pedal up it, I'd probably still push narra.
I'd rather not. I ride down, not up.Try 100m in a quarter of a km.
Ahh ebike lifeI'd rather not. I ride down, not up.
That’s why Jebus invented switchbacks.I'd rather not. I ride down, not up.
