how is the side grip on those in the loose stuff? I just got a new bike with 2.25 Ardent rear and 2.4 Mountain King on front, have noticed there is significantly less side grip at Glenrock than the 2.35 Nevegals i had on the old bike

I agree with the $1500 budget if buying a complete 2nd bike. I usually find when buying bikes that its better to aim for a good condition bike with parts that have been well maintained or upgraded. For example the drivetrain should be replaced every couple of years and suspension/brakes should...

i'm on the verge of buying a SH reign 2010 and it has the same bend in the seat tube, would similar cracking/breaking issues be expected there?

I don't know anything what to buy for a headset but do have a bit of experience taking them off, cleaning them out etc once you get what you need to buy you should either make a specific tool to fit the headset or get a bike mechanic to do it. You can stuff up the symmetry of the headset...
