kona and norco are doing awesome parts specs on their rigs for '04.
not long ago people used to say that giant or specialised were good for parts spec on a budget, but look at what you get on the kona/norco stuff now.
well worth spending a few more for.
and back on topic, toss a chain guide on it and go nuts. by the time you want to get a full DH rig, you'll have had a lot of fun on the stinky.

exactly what lupine said
i don't know why i'm saying it then...but...
grab the stinky.....become a better rider...then get a full blown dh rig when u feel limited by the stinky in what ur doing
hell...i still say get a hardtail but i'm an oldschool badass...lol...and i don't have much money.....grrr...i'm looking into progressing to gutty's frm125 though.......
but seriously....riding a bike which is not the best in the world for what u want to do makes u a heaps better rider

i can vouch for the stinkys, i have a decked out 02 one with more front travel (6.5) hydros chain guide new wheelset and yeah its awesome, although dh bikes still have a wayy better feel on the track then the stinky does, but the stinky is an awesomeee fr bike with hardly any pedal bob and an awesome djer as well! its like a hardtail that doesnt hurt your nuts!!! it really sucks considering i bought mine 8 months, wow ok i never relised its been that long. ok well it was worth it, damn bikes are getting a hell of a lot better a hell of a lot faster. thats an awesome bike for 3k.

They look good, when i upgrade 9(if i ever do) i think i would look at them cos they can do a bit of everything. How would they feel for someone weighing 40kgs?

they rule they are one of if not the best bikes for the money

you can ride them ahrd all day and they will be more suited to alot of courses than say an orange or an M1 ( tight slow and smooth pedally courses)

the "simple" fox shock on the back has new pedal adjustments for better pedaling i think they were sick of getting shat on by 5th element untill i ride one of the new shocks ill stioll say they will suck compared to progressive but are probably a step in the right direction

Stinky for DH

I ride a '02 Stinky Primo, 15.5" frame with Long Travel plates giving 7" and Monster T's up front!!

I think it's mint for DH!! Only downside is the weight, reckon about 37lbs, but mines overbuilt, Monster's, 3pc cranks, chunky bars etc!

It may be more designed for big hucks but fine for DH racing and riding, I just need to be fitter to pedal and hold onto the damn thing to the bottom!

Seems to pedal good enough for me! Of course if your pro you can get away with riding a lighter bike cause you've got less chance of breaking it!!!

If you wanna use it for more of an entry level dhill bike, i'd really recommend an offset seatpost, as the bike is very short. Both the cockpit and the wheelbase are tiny. Ritchey have a nice 30.0mm post with good offset, but if you're a post breaker, RaceFace are gonna make the Diabolus post in 30.0 shortly. AND yes it's coming into the country!

Stinky for DH

I'm 5ft8, raced some of the NZ nationals this year. I ran an Azonic Hammer stem (50mm rise 35mm length) and found this short setup sweet, but guess I'm just used to riding this bike being so small and short! Once Monster's are on it and LT plates, Wheelbase seems fine, stable enough at speed, seems to stick to ground and plough through shit!

Sweet enough for me! Of course if I had heaps of money would prefer more of a race spec bike, but I'm sweet for now, just after lighter forks!!!

been using for just over year
and most likely will be using again this season

i think its fine for huge thinks
its not like thats all your going to be doing on it

i think that weight would definately be over 37lbs with that build, mate has a stock Stinky Delux and that nearly weights the same as my Big Hit with heavy wheels try 45lbs
definately would be a good ride

the 17" Stinky has the same wheel base as my large bighit, but it feels so much shorter, the big hit is definatley more stable at speed

yahhh you can buy candy with that!! how much would that be herm 10c for 3 pineapples so that makes 30 pineapples and a stinky for 3k! bargain!! yer its funny seeign people ride stinkys, like me. they all look really cramped up but really its not that bad oh yeah and they corner pretty crap compared to a dh bike, as far as sweeping corners go, thats just personal opinion though.
