All my Aliexpress MTB purchases reviewed.

Yeah I've been tempted by the fake Ingrid cranks and derailleur

Ops, edited to 30mm spindle.

Reckon they'd be worth the go on bikes that dont take big hits. I've lost a crank arm on the jump landing on the Bannockburn gap, its scary shit.

Was a COTFW reason as I didn't tighten the arm.

I'm sure someone posted recently here about the AliEx 5DEV DUB cranks... Something about the fixing bolt being made of cheese. I'll try to find it and update.

Update!! Did a few rides and it survived black/ double black runs. Tried to take off cranks to access chain guide and rounded off both crank arm bolts(made of cheese). Not sure if I hand tight it too hard but now gotta hacksaw/grind off the axles. Will be returning back to shimano cranks.
Ah, here we are. Knew I'd seen it here, the best place for up to date AliEx news!

This is following David's post about the 5Dev copies, if you follow the post thread/quote chain you'll see the history.

Where are people finding hardware spacers on Aliexpress? What a nightmare.

I'm looking for two specifically and all of the stores are just all over the shop.

I need
- ID12 OD14 2mm thick
- ID14 OD16 1mm thick

NOt expecting someone to know where these are just a store that has some options rather than just all the typical cheap plastic M4 M5 M6 etc

what material?
almost worth slicing from a tube/ lathed tube..

First completely dud purchase. Wanted some purple pedals for the 6yr olds bmx build and figured even if shit quality, they’d still be good enough for a 6yr old. Aliexpress showed me…

I bought one of these on a whim:

It cost AU$41.13 shipped, which is a little less than what MTB direct are charging.

There are no instructions, but I followed the instructions from Oneup (I have a genuine one)

Some things to note...

The tool itself appears to be made of a cheaper looking steel
(L - genuine, R - ali knock off)

The bolt to attach the plastic sleeve to to the star nut is 4mm and bugle for the real deal and 5mm and cap head for the knock off

The good news is that it fits!

The verdict:

It's ok. I prefer having the one that has gone through R&D and QC procedures, but the cheap one will work fine on the eldest kiddo's bike.

Definitely looks cheaper and of lower quality. If it works, it works, but for $40 I probably wouldn't be too happy.
I do it for my followers 🤣

Yeah, for sure. I was curious but didn't hold high hopes. It was always going to be for the kid, who doesn't ride far from home and is usually with me anyway, so I wasn't too fussed.

On a positive note, if the fake tool fails the real deal tool fits in the plastic sleeve. I'm hoping it lasts a little while though!

How do the grips feel? About the only thing I've hated from AliExpress so far where some grips. They looked great but the feel and vibration absorption were shit
They’re not Ourys so I just assume they’re shit… Haven’t used them myself but they felt pretty normal when I grabbed them out of the packet.

Finally got around to using this star nut installer I got some time ago. In the past I just bash on the bolt with a star nut screwed on - this is much easier. And from memory it cost bugger all ($15). Pretty solid build - would recommend

I'm glad that I'm not the only one who uses the bolt and hammer technique. I find that if you swear at it enough it ends up straight eventually.
