All my Aliexpress MTB purchases reviewed.

3m Carbon fibre selfie stick for $20  Impressive bit of kit for the price.

Not that I intend to take selfies from 3m, look at it as an extension for 360° video/pics to get the camera higher.

Ok slightly off topic. Bought this for the little one. It's 8.4kg which is ok compared to most bikes out there like this. Needed some work so I go at it. Man everything is so heavy on there!

Bar and stem combo is pushing a kilo. The fork looks like it's solid steel. The brake lever is obviously not made for kid, the reach is munted and the handle grip required is a fair bit.

Untitled.jpg

Ok so here is the thing I ride bikes, I spend a fair bit on them. It's not really fair if my kid ride a junker (well I paid $50 for it) but whos counting? If you scale the weight up it would be like me riding a 38kg bicycle which is nuts. So the aim is to drop a few kilos. That's where aliexpress comes in.

Fork (-500g): Still questioning if I do this or keep the caliper brakes. It will be a massive weight drop and I don't think there will be structural issues with chinese carbon for a kids bike loaded the way they are. THe main point though is this one is disc

Front disc wheel: Struggling to find anything on aliexpress or anywhere else really. The ones on ali appear to be build more tankish than what I have and the disc ones I found are solid mags for moto! I think my ali searh skills are lacking here.

Brake: Some old M675 levers beacuse they are the only ones I have with reach adjust that's in storage. Put some RT800 rotors on there because they are one of the few without holes for little people to poke fingers through.

Cranks: I also don't know the standard of this crank so will search around for lighter replacements.

Chain/ Chainguard. Plan is to ultimately remove the chain guard and hot wax dip this sucker. Correct me if i'm wrong but I would think the issue is kids touching the grease, not neccessarily them sticking a hand in there? But kids are dumb?

Post; Seems ok, it's some strange 25mm size (1 inch) but integrated with the saddle. Saddle looks heavy but being integrated means it's probably all together not that heavy.

Target weight, 7kg flat

Am I mad?

Purchased the one up chain guide in October. $48 shipped to Sydney. Been working flawlessly since. The original seller isn’t available but did see another seller the exact same thing for now $33 .The only thing missing in the package was this green tool that helps guide the slider height, not necessary to install though. Highly recommend since it’s about $150. Anyone have any experience with the chromag daggas?
Just found this amazing item on AliExpress.

Yes. Because, if they are having fun, then the annoying little shit monsters really don't care how much it weighs or how unwieldy it is. Because they are better than we imagine...

Couldn't tell you what my Schwinn Sting Ray weighed but I rode the shit out of it when I was 8-11 years old and never thought about the weight.

Has anyone purchased gloves from our Chinese overlords? I have been running some MX gloves that I got from the $5 bin at AMX in 2012 and they're getting a bit tired.
I don't want thick, armoured, padded or fancy.

These have been the best that I've been able to find. A lot of the cheaper stuff is just horrible, it looks good on the outside but poorly made with bits of overlapped material poking into your finger tips and in between the web of your fingers.

I got given a pair of 'FOX' gloves for Chrissy.
I'm sure they're from ali. First ride ripped the Velcro off then 2nd the stitching let go.

I have a few Ali knick off gloves. They have been fine for me and also seem to wear as well as the legit ones.

I usually get thinner gloves with too much padding and finger armour.

Anyone know if these are legit or knockoffs?

Knock offs. I ordered the TMACs from Rampage MTB Store. They did arrive. They did look very real. Ended up returning as didn’t want to risk it.

The giveaway was “Made in Taiwan” on the box.

I complained bitterly to Aliexpress hoping they’d let me keep and would refund me but no such luck. Rampage took the pedals off the site after my complaints but the stems and seat collars have stayed up.

I bought a couple of mini/portable chain breaker tools recently.

1000013148.jpg

This little thing is a Clever standard copy.

Tested with a 10sp chain and it works.
It comes with a screw on handle and Allen key.

1000013147.jpg

1000013149.jpg

This one stashes away in your handlebar. It doesn't have a handle but the bolt from the bar end cap fits perfectly to act as a handle. It doesn't come with an allen key either, so you'll need your multi tool to use it.

Also tested on a 10 speed chain and it works well. it was a bit snug to slide the chain into position.

I'd happily carry one or the other on longer/remote/group rides.
