Ankle brace/stabilizer, what's the best?

So not specifically a common mtb injury but I thought someone on the forum might have experience with ankle injuries and braces.

So I have completely torn two ligaments and partially torn a third. My ankle now has very little stability and need advice on what would be the best brand and style of brace for an extensively injured ankle?

Thanks,

Brett.

I had a very similar injury quite a few years ago from basketball which left my right ankle pretty bad. After some considerable strength and balance work its better, but still lurks in the back of my mind on the trail.
From a quick search the two I came up with were;

- 661 http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/mobile/au/en/661-race-brace-pro-2017/rp-prod129507

-Troy Lee
http://www.xsportsprotective.com/co...designs-ultra-lace-ankle-support-single-brace

- and 7iDP http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/mobile/au/en/7-idp-control-ankle-brace/rp-prod142328

I use the 661, though its last years model and its done a good job with riding downhill. It was the only one at my LBS at the time and it was a decent price, Its seen some work and now is more of just a mental thing with the extra work. Cant really vouch how it would go on longer rides though!
Some people have issues with the fit because of foot width or ankle to calf variation so its a bit of buyer beware unfortunately.

Havent seen or heard of anyone using the 7iDP but looks like a sturdy design.

The Troy Lee looks like the pick of the crop with both the lacing and "Shock Doctor" strapping. Although it may be more chunky, the reduction in lateral and medial movement is a considerable bonus for protection! Plus all my protection has been troy lee and ALWAYS stood up the the test.

Best of luck with the healing process!

Thanks for your input! Great suggestions too, that TLD one looks fairly comprehensive, might have to give it a go.

Have you considered surgical options? I'm still weighing up my options because the recovery time for these type of injuries is long and sometimes not successful.

My injury was from a game of netball that I was only filling in for and I'm dirty about it. Bloody team sports.

Strapping tape will be your friend for life. Figure six and a stirrup. If ligaments are torn completely they don't heal without surgery.

Yeah not great, seeing the specialist soon to see what my options are.
