Errrr, that's not a study, it's a self reported survey.

It's not the self reporting that's wrong (if indeed it is - no methods in the article ) it's the time period - they asked people if they gave money in the last month. That ties in perfectly with church systems of pass the plate around every time you go to church.

Eg my wife raises money for charity, and 10 out of 12 months would answer no. The one or 2 months where it's a yes would make up for the others rather easily. Survey designed to reflect an expected outcome by the authors (you would get similar results if you asked as a percentage of income, because an occasional giver/fundraiser won't keep track of it in that way)
