When BP is making +4bn a quarter net profit, i dont think downsizing petroleum sales is on the cards.
a) BP isn't a car company
b) Who ever said it was going to reduce petrol sales or consumption? The claim was that the engine has 4 parts, not that it uses 4mL of petrol per 100km.

an inventor in australia built a 4 part engine. then a car company nought and destroyed all the plans and patents ever associated with his design.

obviously they were impressed at the idea of an engine with 4 parts.

If they got rid of all the patents, then he could just build it again and sell it, right?

Well hypothetically yes, but for that to happen, this would have to be a real invention....

I believe you are all thinking of the Sarich orbital engine.
Lighter, simpler and 25-30% more efficient.
It's still out there and is in use in boats and a few other applications. Ralph Sarich still owns the patents however no car companies picked it up.
