I think Snap-op is better quality but not really worth the extra expense over Sidchrome etc. I have a few Snap-on spanners, the sizes that I use a lot more than others. Some sockets are thin wall and I had to buy one to suit a set of alloy Chev small block racing heads to do up the stud nuts holding head to block. Nothing else would fit and machining the heads was more expensive.
They look nice and shiny too = bling for toolbox.

If you think Snap On is expensive, you've obviously never heard of Stahl Wille then
Believe it or not that's the brand they sell at Masters, hence the $25 per spanner price tag! I do love Stahl Wille tools, have a lovely set of t handle allen keys, they are such a nice, tight fit even after 20 years and plenty of use. Stick em in wet or dry, they just grip and deliver a quality feel in the hand while you're crankin away.

Got a bit if snap on gear in the work ute. Benefit for me is being able to call the rep whenever I break something and he'll ship out a replacement no questions asked. Also calibrates my tourqe wretches every year.

Working on heavy machinery I break stuff a bit and it's always nice having that luxury. Most my other spanners and sockets are sidchrome and they've been great. Broken a few sockets and a number of ratchets over the years but otherwise they've done better than some other brands other mechanics I work with use.

The new Stahl Wille is not like the old one.

You must spend a lot of money with them. I refuse to buy snap on because they have refused a lot of warranty over the years. I only buy what I need from them, they used to innovative with their tools but now there are many brands that make specialised tools just as good.

Unhappy with the feel of my front brake since I installed it, I decided to undertake the dreaded bleed process for the first time.

Completed the procedure and the front brake is marginally better than before.

Then I found the contact point adjustment :embarassed:

I'm not an automotive guy so don't get the selling point of strap-on tools??? Are they higher quality or what? What is the justification for the higher prices?
I have a lot of Snap-On tools. Yes they are good. But unless you either love spending money on tools or are a professional mechanic they're probably not worth the coin. Luckily I'm both.
I've never had an issue with their warranty. In fact the first question the sales rep asks every week is "do you have any warranty claims?"
Yes they are better than most other brands but not 5X better.
Think of it like bikes. Kincrome and Sidcrome would be your Giant or Specialized. Snap-On would be more of a Santa Cruz or Yeti where a frame can cost more than a Giant bike. Some of my spanners were close to $100 each. My 3/8 socket set was $700 but gets used every day.
It's also a bit of a prestige or snob factor for mechanics.

Yeah I've got no problem with warranty at all. The majority of my sockets and spanners are still Sidchrome but as stuff has been breaking I've been replacing with Blue Point/Snap On generally depending on price. My pliers etc are Knipex as they shit all over everything else so I haven't broken a single one since going that way. Nearly due for some more side cutters though as mine are getting a bit blunt!

One brand that's started to go down the drain is Wurth. I know most of their stuff is out sourced but there's been a noticeable dip in quality over the last 5 years.

Wurth brake wash pump packs are their last claim to fame....

Used to watch this cartoon all the time as a kid, loved it. (35+ years ago)
Been a massive Ronnie James Dio fan for 30+ years. Favorite voice ever.

Only found out 2 days ago he sung the song in the cartoon. I've wasted my life.

Knipex isn't snap on they just sell it. I have broken many Snapon tools, 3/8 drive sockets, about 3 X 1/4 drive ratchets, some crows feet pipe spanners stretched and slipped all the time after 3 uses, a $300 gas soldering iron back in 2000 which was a lot of cash for a mechanic. They made BS excuses not to replace them. After that I bought Koken and hardly ever had any problems. I told the Snapon rep unless he warrants the other tools he can fuck off and he still came back to annoy me. The open & ring spanners are the only tools I buy now, never had any probs with them. Other blokes in the workshop took out mortgages to buy $1000 rattle guns and $2000 tool boxes and most of their stuff would be warranted.

SnapOn toolboxes are the most amazing rip off. The guy I bought my stuff off has a $20,000 tool box and workbench. No tools though. Can't afford them...

Haha yeah I buy my Knipex through the Wurth rep of all places. My toolbox is just a simple Kingchrome road box on the back of the work ute. It's always out in the weather and it's holding up perfectly. My only complaint is the lack of gas strut to hold the top up in the wind. My next mod along with some more LED strip lighting for those night callouts.

Things like 3/4 socket sets, giant shifters and big spanners (36mm and up) your better off going cheap stuff. I always keep a set of Chinese spanners for cutting up and modifying. I nearly fell over when I saw the price of that gear from snap on. My only really expensive stuff from snap on is my tourqe wrenches (1/4, 3/8, 1/2). I use the workshops 3/4 for wheels rather than shell out a couple of thousand on my own.

I still probably spend way too much on tools but if I see something that makes my job easier/quicker I'll usually "invest" haha
