Nice one! Already looking forward to getting up there to ride - classic example of a year where the snow hasn't delivered and the need for a biking mecca is high! Good stuff Buller

Mt Buller actually doing a new DH trail??? Wow... I never thought that day would come. After Buller becoming such a let down over the last decade with the same old tracks getting more flogged out and even more boring every year, it is great to finally see something positive going on up there for DH.

Great work Buller! Keep that up and I will actually consider heading back to what was once my favorite venue.

Walked the top section on Thursday last week. Notwithstanding the storm damage to the trees and the snow draining down the trail, it looks fun.

The downhill trails have always been managed by the lift company and the cross country trails are managed by Resort Management. Despite this fact, it is Resort Management who has built this new trail, along with the other $1mill we have pumped into building sweet new single track for XC riders.

Copperhead will be launched on 3 Dec - see you there!

Does this new trail go from the horse hill chair all the way to the mid station? Or does it link onto an older track along they way.

So basically is it 2km plus or just a short section off another trail?

Copperhead is basicly an entire new trail, lets say 95% new, it does use a very small section of the Home Trail below Hell Corner. Total distance is a smidge under 3km. The attatched map will give you a rough outline, this is an early draft of Mt Bullers 2011/12 map, Copperhead is the purple dashed line. The map is not quite correct at this point, especially the lower section of the new trail, its finish point is much closer to where Abom flushes out onto the lower fire road before the chairlift mid-station. The track begins across from the top of Horse Hill chair, towards the Arlberg Hotel.Copper Head Map.jpg

Buller matrail map errors.

Is the section of Klingsporn that's shown on the map going to be there/marked/routed/visible? Tried to find it for two days last summer and eventually figured that it was missing presumed the same place as the route markers for the Village track...

Other than that - looking forward to a visit (or two, or three... :)
If you are talking about the pink dashed line, yep agree a little misleading. Word is this trail will be cleaned up and opened out a little to make it more obvious and have a few helpful signs
It exists below the small shelter along the track from Arlberg to Spurs, now the start of Copperhead. It was an old walking trail that linked onto the pole line trail that then cut through Abom, then below "The Thunderdome" on International and lead you out to the start of Klingsporn on the other side of Burnt Hut Spur. Most riders heading out onto Klinsporn do so by dropping onto Abom then taking a hard left onto the pole line and across to the true start of the trail on the other side of the Burnt Hut ski run.
As stated in the previous post this map is very much work in progress, there are a few errors and areas that will be tidied up, and just used it in this thread to give peeps a rough idea of the where abouts of Copperhead.

PS. Resort Management at Mt Buller will be making continuious improvement to the trail signage both with-in the village and out on the trails this coming summer season.

Buller Chair Lift Summer 2011/12

At this stage, 07/09/11, Chairlift will turn from Boxing Day 27th of December till the end of January 2012. This is a decision made by Buller Ski Lifts. The Mt Buller Resort Management Board is fighting to extend this lifted "season" somehow. At this point this is all that is known. When exact details of what's happening are known then it will go public via Mt Bullers website and the BIKE BULLER Facebook page.

Yep, the pink one was what i should have said - thanks for the directions.

Good work with improving the trail signage - getting confused as some of the signs and maps didn't seem to match up was one of the (very) few down points of riding at Buller over the last couple of years.

You've probably already thought of it but even just the weekends for another month would be fantastic!

New trail looks awesome, better save for a bike so I can head up there.

According to the map it looks like Copperhead climbs back up to the Mt Buller Road...is this correct Ben ? If so I guess that would mean it could be ridden when the lifts weren't running and/or it appears you use the Home Trail run to get back to the bottom of the Horse Hill Chairlift loading ? Looking forward to it !! :)

Map is an early version, and is incorrect, it does not climb back to the Buller road. The trail finishes close to where the Abom DH track flushes out on the lower section of the Home Trail. You can, however, simply ride up the home trail and gain the Buller Road either through Lower Tyrol car park or further along and exit into the Skating Rink car park. So yes totally rideable without the lift running. Opening on December the 3rd and 4th.
