Cracked frame or scratch?

Daniel, i feel 100% the same way. If i could afford to take the loss id sell it and buy something else but id say i need another year out of it first before i start looking at new bikes.

My local bike shop bills Giant for the labor, i asked that same question at the start as id read some old forum posts from overseas where the bike owner had to pay their lbs for the labor as Giant didnt cover it, guess we're lucky here in that regard.

You can thank our consumer laws for covering the cost of repairs.

You would probably find that the labour cost the LBS charges Giant would be less than a retail amount for the same job. Just like say Mazda dealers get a time frame and rate the factory allows for specific warranty work which is below what they would normally charge for the same work.

Does anyone have recommendations on how bad a scratch should be in carbon fibre to start getting concerned with? See photos below of a solid scratch probably in the order of 1mm deep and about an inch long in my Lapierre. I haven't stopped riding it but whenever I look at it I think it doesn't look great..

Thoughts?

Does not look good at all if it were mine I would absolutely not ride that until it is checked properly.

Cheers - that's about what I thought. Taking it to lbs tomorrow for something else but will get them to take a look. I'm fairly sure they don't do carbon fibre work they might say check with Lapierre or with a carbon fibre specialist. Thredbo could be interested in a few weeks time.

Bike Shop won't do much but a visual inspection. That needs an ultrasound and probably repair. Are u in Melbourne?

I'd keep it hush...thrash fuck out of the bike in the hope of cracking it. Then make a warranty claim.

In Sydney. I have more faith in the shop's I visit but that is their business at the end of the day. I really think it's relatively superficial as I have done a couple of decent rides at mt Keira and RNP like this, will consider getting it repaired nonetheless.

Hopeful a happy ending at last to my case. Ive got a beautiful new frame / rebuilt bike in my hot little hands. Very happy with the rebuild, new cups/ headset, bb, cables, chain, serviced shock and gone 1x (32 wolf oval)... Its come together really well and looks sweet.

Just waiting on this rain to piss off, deff had enough wet races for a lifetime or at least until ive forgotten about this years Blores and B24!

Thanks again to everyone who's commented and helped.

Guess this wont come as a surprise to many of you... I kinda knew it was only a matter of time tho id have thought it would have taken a little longer then 7 weeks... 300-400km, 5000m Vert on XC trails.

This just turned up after todays ride; Hasnt been washed yet so plenty of dust etc there and lots of little surface lines on the clear coat from drying the bike with a microfiber towel after washing (not usually visible to the eye but the iphone camera really picks them up... but that 'fracture'? just appeared and you can feel it with your finger nail)...

Same location as last time.

Would be interested to hear carbon pro's views on why they sh1t themselves at that place. They do have a big stiff rocker now (2017), wonder if that will that help or make it worse?

Sorry to hear mate. I just don't think carbon anthems are suited to heavy or tall riders. Not saying that you're either type but I mean they are not built strong enough .

Maybe go for a Trance this time?

100% Agree teK.

Im deff in the heavier catagory, 85kg + 5-6kg of gear on longer rides (inc up to 4L fluids) deff over 90kg on the bike. Many moons ago when i was racing i was 60kg tops, im sure if i was that weight again this wouldnt be happening.

Not interested in the Trance, i wouldnt have bought a Giant at all if i wasnt getting the Anthem.

And id assume if Giant was going to offer a Trance that would need to be a complete bike as the forks, shock and wheels are all different so if they are open to that then id rather see if the 2017 Anthem is any stronger now it appears the bikes been turned into a more all round 'trail' bike? Then pure XC...
