Crankworx Cairns

Don't forget Trace!
That particular post was for the dual slalom results.

Trace was awesome in the DH. Was so stoked to see her push in the final sprint to bring it home. Became even more relevant once I saw how much time Troy took out of Connor with his wattalicious sprint.

Well that sucked all of the sunshine out of the day
Mate of mine at work showed me a vid of someone smacking a tree, didn't manage to find it online but suspect it might have been Sam. There was a rider down called over the radio when I was halfway up the trail during DH practice as well, took them a bit to get them off the track too.

Watched the new format Full Tilt live as I'm the only one home, I think it's got legs. Great to watch riders battle each other side by side and I loved that the course has so many lines they have to choose from.
It could have been bit longer course to allow for more passing, but for me it was far more enjoyable than dual or speed and style (which I never bother watching).

I thought it was actually kinda shit, and if they want bar to bar racing they should just bring back 4 cross.

How good was Tracey Hanna, signed up the day before start to ride as a tribute to Frank Falappi who passed away in practice for the World Masters 2 weeks ago, she wore his jersey.

He was great bloke and did a lot for the community and MTB community in the Cairns region.
I rode the Simpson Desert with him in 2015 and had intended to head up to Cairns at some stage and catch up for a ride.

Awesome Tracey Hanna, his family and friends were stoked.

He had just taken over the organiser's role for the Reef to Reef and Triple-R too :(

Hopefully they name a trail after him which he deserves despite his recent passing.

100% ! A Police sergeant, the 2 blokes that supported him were detectives and the nicest guys, they even took on desert roles when they arrived, including timer. He brought his wife back and she rode it a couple of years later. He will be sorely missed.

I don't know if there's a contract in place but I wouldn't be surprised if this is the last Crankworx in Cairns. It's clearly too far away for anyone to invest money to attend.

Just felt so flat and low energy (riding notwithstanding).

Drooling over the Crossworx bikes at the 85 Spices stand is a distant memory.

I've had the livesteam on in the background over the weekend and definitely agree, international rider numbers seem well down and spectator numbers abysmal.

Yeah watched some of the highlights of the DH. Crowd looked non existent. Pretty small for Slopestyle as well.

Did Nikolai wee in the judges drinks? Bringer and Godsy did pretty good runs but they weren't that much better.

Bizarre scoring to me.

Shame really but it's a combination of bike industry woes and cost of living pressures.

I will say there's a fuck load of cashed up parents up this way judging by the number if Pivots and Santa Cruzes ridden by children.
