I think what happened is his mates said any old 4wd is going for crazy money, even that piece of shit pajero of yours would probably get $15,000 and he didn't hear them properly.

Maybe my perceptions have been completely fried by COVID tax but that doesn't seem too bad? Through axle forks, half decent wheels, be a great bike for someone upgrading from a $600 hardtail if you paid 1100-1200?

Nah. Totally fine pricing. If you want a bike right now that spec and price is ok. Got a dropper, a set of renthal bars and suspension that is easily serviced. And that is the time when sram drivetrains were incredible! And decent wheels. If it was a small id get it for my kid!
