When I reminisce on dubstep in my later years Im almost certain that I'll think of this tune. Hearing this at Tomorrowland in Belgium will definitely go down as one of my best dubstep experiences!

That track is huge! But I'm gonna be "that guy" that says it's not even close to dubstep. check out "trap" music. It can be either really, really good, or absolutely horrible.

I agree some trap is actually fantastic.

Flosstradamus is getting himself into all sorts of trouble by directly ripping off hardstyle tracks then not crediting the producers at all. He's ripped off Zatox, Da Tweekaz, Showtek, heaps of huge names. It's annoying because I like his stuff but I hate him ripping off my favourite producers.

He's also widely known for not actually mixing at live shows, just playing off a pre-mixed CD. Which is very unfortunate!

Yeah i know, but it played in the middle of Trolley Snatcha's set and it did a pretty good job of mixing into the rest of it. I'll check some out now, anyone in particular?

Sounds just like Araabmuzik, except with trance artists. By the way, flosstradamus is a duo, you sure you guys are getting them confused with someone else? I haven't heard of the whole pre-pitched cd thing before now.

Uhh check out the releases on the mad decent imprint "jeffrees". They offer all their stuff for free, I reckon the Lockah EP "When U Stop Feeling Like A Weirdo and Become A Threat" is probably their best release. Diplo is really pushing that sound at the moment, try some of the Diplo and friends mixes. For more of the sound like floss, have a listen to the "bueller" collab ep.

Other than that, check out LuckyMe records as well. They've been releasing some brilliant stuff lately. Just ordered this on 12" (even though I still haven't bought a bloody turntable...)

This is just what I was referring too,

I did mean to say 'them', this video was just posted on another forum that I visit, very mixed opinions on it.

Is that it?

They aren't mixing with vinyl or CDs, that's what I can tell from that.

It's just digital DJing. I'm guessing he's using Ableton or something. If the audio cables were still connected, there is no reason that would kill the noise.

Their sample theft is a little more worrying.

Yeah I know, it's not the best evidence, but from the thread I took this video from, there are a lot of people who believe otherwise. That tied with the sample thing is not the best wrap.

Any recommendations of stuff similar to this?

I know of them, and el-b, and that's about it. I'm trying to find more of that darker, 2-step garage. The stuff from around the start of the decade that wasn't quite dubstep, but wasn't really traditional garage either.

Also, LJohn, are you going to see Digital Mystikz in perth early next year? I'm heading over there for christmas with some family and I got excited for that gig but unfortunately I'll be down south when they're playing.

I know they're a duo, I just refer to artists as him by default.

Straight up rip of the original tracks melody and synth. That 'deaf' comes from the beginning of a sample that goes 'Defqon 1'.

I forget which track it is, but they 'remixed' a track and the label that the original track came from chased them up about it and they replied "We'd be happy to let your label release it as a remix pack, as long as you cover the costs." The label obviously replied with a straight up "No.", so they just released the track for free so they get away with it.

Not impressed by them at all.

I understand what you're getting at, but I think you're forgetting something pretty important. This music was born from mixtures of EDM and instrumental hiphop. And if you know anything about hiphop, you'd know that sampling has been an integral part of the culture since the beginning. I wouldn't stress out too much about it if I were you.

I used to trade tracks with Floss guys back in the old 07 hollerboard days, they are legit. As for ripping bits of existing tracks and working the sounds into new tracks, thats producing for you, especially in certain genres. Bmore and Baile are notorius for it which is why I like the sounds so much, it reminds me of the anything goes sample tactics of oldskool h'core and jungle.

Personally I've been listening to a lot of dark eski beat style uk funky/grime that's all over the place at the moment and some trap/grime stuff like Ghost Mutt.

Sampling, yes, but just taking the whole track and changing the drop? That's a remix man and I think it's unfair that a producer can just take a track, change the drop and then call it their own. Especially when they haven't come up with an original melody, synth or anything.

I suppose I'll live, but they're pissing a lot of really big producers off unfortunately.

Darqwan, M Dubs, Groove Chronicles, Dem 2, Sunship, So Solid/Oxide and Neutrino (pretty garagey but instro's are dark as F), Headtop, Plasticman, Daluq, Vex'd, Slaughter Mob, Alias, DJ Oddz, wookie....

On a new tip but keeping that vibe, a lot of grime producers drop bubblers all the time...Mike Delinquent, Juk Juk, BeatGeeks, some of Flava D's new stuff, Spooky, Rude Kid, Swifta, Mista Maff...

A likkle darker rudebwoy

Another one Matt, just going back through old mixtapes from day. Problem with this style of garage is it was right when 2 step was losing popularity so most artists and labels were fairly obscure with limited releases. Soon reborn as grime/sublow, which was when the slower dubby grime and dark garage became dubstep...which quickly went to shit. Some other stuff worth checking is Kalbata's stuff from around 08, his remix of sunship & warrior queen (quits) and his solution are hench and fall into that dark 2steppy sound.

5-star posts, masone. Will definitely check some of those artists when I've got some time.

I've been listening to this ep a lot today. You guys should really listen to it if you haven't already. This track is great, and the others have a bit of a house-influenced feel to them.

No worries, any sublow/8 bar producers from early-late 00's will have bangers in that style. Young Dot, Jon E Cash/Black Ops, Big $hot and Danny Weed (Roll Deep producer) are also worth checking. First time I heard Young Dot's 8 Bar and Bazooka Riddims I nearly threw my computer at a wall, so gassed.
