Electric Vehicles etc

I am very close to taking the plunge into the modern electric world. Wondering about people's thoughts on a demo model. I have always been hesitant to buy a demo ICE as it is likely to have spent an undue amount of time close to redline prior to even being run-in. It seems to me that this wouldn't be much of a concern for an electric car. Am I missing something?

Why would an ex-demo have been redlined everywhere? Most people drive slow-AF and just want to play with the infotainment setup and check out the reverse cameras - so as long as they haven't driven it into something in the process you're normally all good... (assuming you're not talking about a sports model, they probably have been robustly thrashed during test-drives and fair enough too!).

He has seen me with the last demo I was given. Poor thing.

I reckon you'd be fine most ev's are so quick you are struggling to find anywhere to floor it anyway

When we took the model 3 lr for a test drive wife was doing 100 in a 60 before she noticed. No noise, torque surge, speedo in a wierd place.apart from chewing tyres I don't see it placing much extra wear, and demo's won't do that many traffic light GPs to really shred them. If the price is right a demo is a good option.

Sadly all demos are not equal IMO. If it was strictly a demo then fine it's not given too hard a time IF is an ex service loaner then they are often given a much harder time. They all get sold as ex demos though.

5)How fast can you take speed bumps...
I imagine electric demos are a bit different to ICE ones, since you actually can't make the motor suffer worse than what it was designed for, there is no redline until you are doing top speed and nobody is doing that for a sustained period ever, let alone on a demo drive. Lots of flooring it makes the battery work hard, but again it's made to handle it and I can't see it being significant in a car with a few thousand kays on the clock.

It would mostly be the kooks that fly over speed humps damaging the suspension ;)

On a completely different note, it was pretty sad to see my BMW go and realise I can't afford to make it electric. But with recently moving out of the house for renos I re-discovered I already have several electric cars including a few BMW's. I also have my own private hillclimb race track to run them on.

I got into this in the early 2000's for a while, and the track has sat in my garage against a wall for at least 15 years. Canberra peeps or visitors, there will be beers and laps over summer :)
