Glenrock Riders Survey and Club formation

This is probably only relevant to people who ride Glenrock in Newcastle. The Glenrock Trail Alliance is undertaking another of its annual rider surveys. This one is particularly important to us as we have recently become an MTBA affiliated club and want feedback on what direction the local riders want the club to go in so we can cater for everyone.

To fill out the survey go to;

https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/LH69KCB

The Survey is in two parts,

Part 1 asks a few questions about what you want from the club.
Part 2 asks the questions from last years survey to provide data about how the GTA is performing.

The survey will run until November 1. Following the survey we will be holding a riders forum (to be held on a saturday morning at the Gun Club Gates). This will discuss the club direction and look to fill club committee positions.

If you could take a few minutes to take the survey it would be greatly appreciated.

Please also spread it amongst your friends and get the word out.

If you want to join the club, head on over to https://www.registernow.com.au/mtba/MembershipClub.aspx?C=341

For those that are members of another club already (or don't want to join MTBA) we are working on a system to allow you to just join the GTA for $10.

As the GTA builds closer to being a fully functioning club, we have set down Wednesday December 10 at 7pm as the next meeting date for the GTA. The meeting will be held in the Bowlers Lounge of the Charlestown Bowling Club.

At this stage the priority for the night is to fill the remaining club positions.

Vice President
Major Works Coordinator
General Maintenance Coordinator
AM Trail Coordinator
Social Ride Coordinator
Womens Coordinator (We would love to have this roll flourish in the club if someone wants to step forward and drive it).

If you are interested in a roll or have a suggestion for the club, please come to the meeting or if you can't make the meeting let us know of your intent so it is known on the night. To get the club really moving forward we do need people to volunteer for the different roles.

If you have any issues you would like to see on the agenda for discussion, make them known and we can add them in for discussion.

There has been people asking what the roles entail and time needed to commit to each of them. Here is a quick run down, but please ask any questions that you think needs to be asked.

Vice President - Essentially assists the president and steps in where required. Time needed is probably minimal beyond attending club meetings (frequency to be determined at this meeting, but likely to be once every 2 months unless something requires an additional meeting). The club is being set up so issues can be resolved by email without the need to wait for meetings.

Major Works Coordinator - This role will liaise with NPWS on coordinating major works such as new trails, complete re-routes etc. This would often, when funding permits, require working in conjunction with Professional Trail Builders as well as the NPWS. It would also be involved in assisting to prioritise major works within the park. Time wise, this is a large job at times and very quiet at other times depending on the resources NPWS have at their disposal.

General Maintenance Coordinator - This role will serve to ensure general trail maintenance occurs on a regular basis. It will also coordinate any maintenance done outside of group build sessions. The GTA was envisaging a regular monthly morning (or afternoon) of scheduled maintenance, with individuals coordinated outside of these times. The General Maintenance Coordinator would have a large influence in where maintenance occurs and could form a smaller sub committee to assist.

All Mountain/Downhill Coordinator - Obviously there are no DH/AM trails that are sanctioned in Glenrock at this point. We need someone with building experience who is connected with the DH/AM community to assist in liaising with the NPWS and riders to further the advocating for these trails. We have indications that NPWS want to provide these facilities, we need someone to assist in pushing. Time wise, this is not a big job. It will more entail attending irregular meetings with the NPWS and canvassing the riders for input. At such time as any construction commences, this role would coordinate and assist in design.

Social Ride Coordinator - Basically, organise regular rides and possibly social functions. Could be served best by a group of people spreading the load.

Womens Coordinator - This role would entail womens social ride days, potentially womens maintenance days, skills days, etc. Essentially a blank canvass to try and get more girls on bikes.

With the new year approaching we want to start next year with regular rides, maintenance work on making glenrock was awesome (on and off the bike) as it can be. Please share this around to other riders so we can get the message out.

If you are interested send me a message or get on our website (http://www.glenrocktrailalliance.com) or your Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/GlenrockTrailAlliance).
