1) Take out the cable installation plug and unscrew all screws on the base plate.
2) Remove the mounting bracket screw and barrel adjuster.
3) You need to remove the spring and pawl indicated.
4) To do this, remove the circlip on top of the post and pry up the top plate to remove pawl and spring. This requires some force but don’t worry, it all goes back into place. The barrel adjuster thread plate will fall out when doing this so make sure you note it’s orientation.
5) Put barrel adjuster screw plate back in place and refit the top plate over the pawl post, making sure to instal the circlip.
6) Screw the base plate back on, as well as the shifter mount and barrel adjuster.
7) Make sure the main shift lever moves and returns unhindered, then cut off the return shift lever with a hack saw or grinder.
Congrats, you now have an awesome dropper remote effectively made from a paper weight, for little or no cost. This process works for most Shimano front shifters I believe, at least the more recent models anyway.
