Human behaviour - humans are strange

Humans behaviour is strange at times. Bjork was onto it years ago.

Wednesday night in the city, cars blocking intersections all over the place. Way more than usual. I think it was because it was raining. But all of these humans were sitting safe and dry inside a steel box.
What is up with that? Is it an instinctual thing to get home quickly if it’s raining?

What other strange behaviour have you observed in humans?

And an increase in greed? This could also be instinctual though, like hoarding for winter.

Greed isn't a natural instinct and our society has all, enough, and more in abundance. So the need to hoard for winter is negated as the instict is satisfied. Or so it should be...the machine however can not allow enough to be enough.

I read this comment the other day & couldn’t help but nod:

“... Anglo societies emphasise individualism more than others. Individualism is synonymous with capitalism, which advocates 'getting ahead', rather than a sense of community and caring for your fellow citizens and neighbours.

Individualism makes us materially richer, because it encourages hard working and material success, while collectivism relatively tolerates socialist principles such as state support.

But individualism is disastrous for social cohesion and road safety. Witness how US society is being torn apart right now. It also encourages motorists to see cyclists as 'others' who have made unsafe choices, for which they are not responsible...”

We have this bloke at work; big time narcissist who goes looking for conflict. Get this, he went from our workshop to an adjoining workshop and listened in a a conversation between two other people while he was hiding behind some boxes. He waits an hour, stews on it then fronts these guys and chucks a wobbly. They're both scratching their heads and giggling a little at this guy and he storms off ranting about some other subject. He calls the boss later and tells him off and said these guys talk about people behind their back etc etc. He gets to work the next day and I shit you not, he had a cry about the water coming from our urn being too fucking hot. He chucks his cup in the sink and storms off into the workshop bay he was working the day before (just him, no one else) and has another wobbly about it being messy and his tools laying everywhere.
To me, the answer to the riddle of him being such a miserable fuckwit is he does triathlons, he condemns anyone not on a paleo diet, tyre blacks the inside of his car tyres and I've heard him talk of the earth being flat.
He's the best entertainment in our workplace. ;)

This took a while to post up but it was in response to Poodles greed post.

I'm guessing you mean years? Maybe. Fortunately we can look at the changes in humans over the more recent recorded history.

This thread should spark some interesting dialogue!

Common sense, does anyone know what happened to that?

I reckon that while our way of life/living has changed significantly over the last few years, to a fairly large extent our instincts haven’t.

I thought us and our primate relatives aren't big on sitting in the rain and seek shelter. Maybe it is bit instinctive.

Exiting a plane is always one that I've seen where many people up jump up early stampede style and try to leave pronto.

Ok, I get that no one wants to hang around but it always takes a few minutes to park it and get the gantry in place and open the doors etc. The unwashed herd standing for another 5-10 minutes won't make it any quicker. If you have checked baggage then you will be waiting longer anyhow.

People, I know that they are for some people but I find it hard to like them at all.

Airport travel behavior is always - hurry hurry wait. Hurry hurry wait.

Same applies to Muppets that rush to customs... only to wait.... rush to gate... only to wait....

Most people are institutionalized in schools or work places, just have a think how most of them work, you get a prize for being the best or 1st

Common sense is long gone because people want to push every boundary and stand on a knife point, then they need to blame someone when it goes to shit. It's like people borrowing from banks and then trying to blame them when they can't make loan repayments, did they ever consider before they applied for the loan what would have happen if they lost their job or became ill or etc..

It died when parents stopped teaching kids to think for themselves. I'm big on that, and I don't answer the same question three times.

Of course now I have a 6yo that wants to know why you can see part way into a dust storm but not all the way through, and can split the difference between 60 and 100 in the blink of an eye

And you're made to feel like a failure if you dont
