As most of you know or dont know, Australia's richest man died this morning. It has been all over the news this morning and there has already been alot of tributes to him from other big names. They say he will be remembered as a very successful bussiness man.

It's interesting to watch the news coverage from channels 7 and 10 over the whole packer loss.

they're trying to be as respectful as possible but are still throwing in the odd jab to the ribs to let 9 know that they've just lost their 'Obi-Wan' (i.e a lot of references to the millions squandered at the casino, footage of packer pushing over reporter's cameras etc.)


The guy is going to be regarded as a major philanthropist, and will be given the 'true blue have-a-go aussie larrikin' in the national psyche for years to come so I wouldn't feel too bereaved over it all!

I heard today on tv, alan bond was talking about him with ray martin.. apparently after seeing a story on aca about a girl who need 150k to get an operation he rang the station immediately following and told them he would sort it out, which obviously he did straight away... but asked for anominity

Packer doesn't have a media empire, he has a casino empire with a media arm. Even James Packer shouldn't be able to run that into the ground, what with the house odds being so heavily in his favour and all.
