Little Things You Hate

I was once a passenger in the back of a 120Y coupe on an emergency run to get someone to hospital. 3 up and 160 plus on country roads and quite possibly the most scared I’ve been in a car…
I'm quietly impressed that the 120Y would make it to 160km/h. It would take a person of courage to sit in the back of one of those at that speed.

It needed a downhill section and was screaming its tits off. I didn’t have much choice and the lass having a severe asthma attack was turning a bit blue so I sat down and shut up. And quietly prayed to whichever minor deities might have been listening…

My first car, 120y

The FJ20 is a great engine (assuming from the rego).

A mate of mine has a 1600 with an FJ20 in it. That thing is so much fun. Always got stunned looks from the WRX fan boys when it would haul them in just after their AWD got the jump at the lights.
They are a tough engine those FJ20s. SR20 out of a 200SX was a good substitute as well.

Love the 120y my first car was the 120 runner, it for some unknown reason had a tacco! Had the seat welded back so if someone wanted to borrow it they had to be at least this high (holds out hand at about the 6 foot mark). A 'fun' car to drive as the lightness (only 2 seats) and large wind catching body would mean that it would change lanes when a truck would go past in the opposite direction. The 120y's must have had a fairly long gear range as I remember it sitting on 120-140 'ok' in that it needed to be flat with no head wind and a strong constitution (see above comment on it's unwillingness to stay on a straight tracking)

I had a couple of Pulsar SSS's in the 90's and SR20 even without a turbo was a great engine.

I LOVED pulling 4,000rpm in the 200SX and drop the clutch - good burnout car.

Being a train spotter (plucked from memory) I think the 200SX engine had a SR20DET designation. SR20DE for the Pulsar.

You've not lived until you've driven a Renault 10 across the Westgate Bridge in high winds... Rear engine so only 30ish % of the weight on the front wheels, slab sided styling and 800kg wet. Aquaplaning and wind induced lane changes were regularly quite exciting...

I puckered up once and got that thing to 75MPH indicated. On a long downhill....
