This is a slightly re-jigged transcript of the email tennis between myself and customer service at Ubisoft. The names have been changed to protect the incompetant and a few extra comments have been added in for effect but otherwise this is the shit I have had to deal with for the last month...

Our story begins with a young fellow looking to download a WW2 submarine simulator to pass the time when it's too wet to go sit in the park and drink paint thinners.

Paying for his purchase via the medium of Credit Card, our cheeky chap is directed to a secure site to download his purchase so he can go sink some japs (not being racist, it's how they talked back in the day. honest!) Unfortunately the software available appears to be not what he ordered and so springs forth the epic saga of...

Mr Stella and the Fuckwits at Ubisoft!

Hi Drone #1,

Thanks for your response.

The issue I'm having isn't that the file is lost, it's that when it goes to
install it tries to install the add-on and not the original game.

I.E: When I launch setup, I get the message

"This setup has detected that no version of Silent Hunter Wolves of the Pacific
is installed. This Update requires that a previous version of the application
be installed"

The downloaded setup file is in a folder named Silent Hunter Wolves of the
Pacific Uboat Addon, and is 637mb in size so I presume that is the original game
setup however it will not allow me to install it. Please can you help me rectify
this?

Regards

Hi Drone # 2

I have been awaiting a response from your escalation team (and hopeful
resolution of this issue) however the only correspondence I have had
from UBISOFT this week is informing me that because I have not responded
to them in the previous 48hrs, my issue has been apparently SOLVED (see
pasted email below)

Now, I still don't have my game so I think this issue is anything BUT
solved!

I am currently working away from home for the next couple of weeks so I
will not be able to download Silent Hunter 4 until I return. I trust you
can use this time to ensure that the correct piece of software is in
place, and not the add-on pack.

Regards

Mr Stella

------------------------------------------
Ok, I'm getting a bit pissed off now but surely they can get it sorted out...

Thank you for contacting the Ubisoft Store.

To whom it may concern,

It has been two weeks now since I last heard anything from Ubisoft
regarding my
order of Silent Hunter 4 (see below) and I am still waiting for a
response.

I originally submitted my order on August the 18th which is almost a
month ago.
The money has been debited from my account yet I still have no game.

PLEASE RECTIFY THIS IMMEDIATELY!

I would either like: The correct link to be made available for me to
download
(and for prompt notification of this) or B: a physical copy of the game
to be
sent to my Australian address ( your mum's house, blah blah blah) or c:
A full
refund.

Dear Ubisoft customer service,

Thank you for your swift response to my latest email,

it's a completely USELESS response but it's prompt nature is much appreciated.

Anyway, I have typed in the order number and my password and now it appears that
there is no order to be found.

at all.

PLEASE CAN I GET SOMEBODY WHO KNOWS WHAT THE F*** IT IS THEY ARE DOING TO LOOK
INTO THIS!!!

Seriously this is getting beyond a joke! How in the hell can you design such
complicated games yet struggle so much with installing the correct f***ing link
on your website?!? It's been 4 weeks now.

Please, whoever receives this email, take a look at all the previous
correspondence in this email. It's a f***ing cracker, I can tell you! The same
question has been asked again and again and again, often with the same answer
being returned yet there still has not been resolution over this issue! This
matter has been bumped about from department to department yet I still haven't
received the correct software or a refund.

Is anybody actually reading these emails, or am I just wasting my breath? Just
in case somebody actually is reading this, can I suggest that they organise the
relevent parties to :

GET THIS F***ING ISSUE SORTED IMMEDIATELY OR I WILL NEVER PURCHASE ANOTHER
UBISOFT PRODUCT AGAIN AND I WILL FORWARD THIS EMAIL TO ALL MY CONTACTS TO LET
THEM KNOW JUST HOW INEPT YOUR CUSTOMER SERVICE IS!

Unkind Regards

Hi Drone #6,

Thanks for the quick response.

It's nice to finally be sent to a different link as opposed to being
redirected
back to the same Silent Hunter add-on pack that has caused all this
frustration
in the first place.

It's just a shame that it's for the wrong bloody game! It's Silent
Hunter 4 (not
SH3) that I have purchased and have mentioned repeatedly in our

but it's good to see you lot are at least trying a different approach!

It's not hard, just read one of the countless emails I have sent to you

Now in reply to your latest attempt at resolution, I can assure you that
the

Hunter 3
in the past however I have since ordered Silent Hunter 4. I could ask
you to
read the correspondence below AGAIN but it is obviously way beyond the

As you can see that is Silent Hunter 4 that has been ordered and paid

Silent Hunter 3 and not Silent Hunter 4: Wolves of the Pacific Add-on

Silent Hunter 5 for that matter (if you are thinking of sending that)

Now cast your minds way, way back to the origins of this sorry tale. The issue was that they had supplied me a link to Silent Hunter 4's expansion pack : Wolves of the Pacific Uboat add-on instead of the original Silent Hunter 4 game.

Now take a closer look at the link they've just supplied....

TBH, I'm not too concerned. I'd just bought my first ever proper grown-up desktop computer and fancied fiddling around on some simulation type games as opposed to the usual console shoot-em ups and racers I normally piss about with, but now I'm away working offshore, Summer's around the corner, I'm off to go join the missus in Indo for a month's surfing, mtb-ing and travelling and in the week I do have at home before then, F1 2010 is getting released on the PS3 and I'll be getting reacquainted with beer!

Don't think I'll really have much time left over...
