"But last March the NPWS started clamping down on `illegal’ riding and now you can’t ride on anything other than a fire trail, which is like asking a hiker to walk across a football field for fun.’’

Very well put right there!

"NPWS is developing a trial proposal to investigate locations that may be suitable to construct trial single tracks for mountain bikes.’’

Sounds a bit like, "forming a vision statement of our concepts for future requirements" (ie we're not really going to do anything but don't want to say so).

Haha yeah Coxy, nice pose!:)

Very glad to see this article come up. It brings forward some of the major issues being discussed in an earlier thread regarding fines for the people who rode singletrack in NP in Terrey Hills.

Show Mike Baird some thanks?
There's a press release and comments form on the ministers site if
you'd like to let him know he's done something good here:

so far only 3 people have bothered to show their appreciation of a polly calling for better MTB access. Let's improve those numbers a bit.

While not from the area and not having ridden around the Dam or the Oxford Falls area yet, i responded to the article. Its great to have a politician recognise the greater need for sustainable trail access. We can only hope that this is pushed into a greater, more national concern.

While its certainly an exciting time in this country with lots of areas being developed for our sport both public and privately, there is still a long way to go in getting greater access to public land areas with sustainable trails.

Education leads to motivation leads to change.

I for one look forward to the next few years with our sport getting more and more support from members of parliament and National parks starting to see that if properly managed we are not a blight on the wilderness. Riding around the bush in a country like ours is some of the best ways to appreciate our country and our bushland resources.
