Mt Buller Season 2015/16 Opening

Hi all, just a copy and paste from another thread:

Here is the DL on trail openings at Mt Buller this season 2015/16:
- from October 31st (Melbourne Cup weekend) some XC trails will roll open as trail crews complete post-winter trail works. Online trail report can be found here.
- the Mirimbah Store shuttle service will also open from this weekend.
- all XC and flow down trails will be officially opened on December 5th along with a bunch of stuff as part of the official opening of the MTB season. Stay tuned to here for full details.
- DH trails will open Boxing Day, December 26th, along with the Northside Express chairlift for lifted DH trails, through untill Australia Day Long weekend. (there is a rumor flying around that the DH trails may open December 5th for official opening weekend, but right now it's a rumor)
- post-Australia Day DH trails will be open every weekend thanks to Blue Dirt MTB and their dedicated shuttle service.
And if you haven't liked the Bike Buller FB page then do so here to stay in the loop or sign up to Bike Buller's CRANK CREW here.

Cheers,

Benny

OK direct from the Trail Fairies re. International: "General pre-season maintenance with tweaks, along with some minor re-alignments"

I will post some photos in a week or so.

just to add to what Benny said about work on International The Lift company crew will continue with general maintenance but now working closer with resort management there is scope to re work and re align some of the the really awkward parts of the trail. We have already ticked off one already with a new entry closer to where abom leaves from after the table top. Once you hit the trees we manged to get it a bit wider so less ducking and weaving. Before someone jumps on and complains we are dumbing it down this is definitely not the plan we just want to make it more fun all the good tech bits will stay as will most of the rocks.

good weekend to kick off the season. Plenty on the buses even with the damp weather. Looks
like it could be another busy year ahead.

There is one tree down on the river trail, and I've been told Klingsporn has a couple across it
also. Otherwise most the river trail is in good shape, including the river spur trail. One regular
(Woz) spent over 14 hours from Friday on, racking and clearing a good wide line. He even broke
his rake. Thumbs up, Woz.

The resort should pony up a few bed nights for the amount of work you do on trail maintenance,
even supply you with a rake and gloves.

Targa High Country this weekend at Buller

G'day riders,

just a heads up that there will be disruptions to traffic flow up the Mt Buller Tourist Rd this weekend due to the Targa High Country event.

Mirimbah store will only be delivering MTB shuttles on the Saturday, November 7th at the following times: 1:00pm, 2:30pm, 4:30pm. Don't forget to book.

Other than this there are a great number of trails open and good to go, with plenty of rain falling this past week expect to find plenty of hero dirt on the tracks!

For full details check out bike.mtbuller.com.au

Cheers,

Benny

Rode International yesterday with Blue Dirt and the work that's been done is superb. The entire top section (up to the road gap) has been revamped and has heaps more flow. Several other sections have been improved to increase flow and there's a brilliant ramp/drop that's been put in at the bottom. The 'steppy bit' just before the wall ride has had an additional bit of matting put in that makes it way less sketchy.

Overall the track has a lot more flow and is way less brutal than it used to be. It's also lot faster. I was riding it on a trail bike and managed just fine, whereas it used to be pretty much DH only.

Whilst International is significantly better, Abom has had the dreaded Buller 'gravel' treatment and the top half is more like Copperhead. Hopefully the gravel will bed in or get packed down with more wheels on it and a bit of rain.

I guess it's 'sustainable', but it's also absolutely zero fun to ride... I'm curious that they were able to do the revisions to International using all existing dirt, whereas with Abom you can see that tons of gravel has been trucked in. The dirt at Buller is some of the best, I'm not sure why it needs gravel on top of it. I'm extremely appreciative of all the work done, just curious as to the choice of surfacing.
