Avanti Plus Hellfire Cup
Tasmania January 25th – 28th 2013
Hi,
We will we use this page to post updates and provide information and answer questions about the Hellfire Cup. Trail programme is ahead of schedule and we have some awesome sponsors and services on board.
So to start with here are some FAQs I’ve been emailed by riders already.
Q: will entries be capped?
A: yep 500 plus sponsors entries

Q: when will entries open?
A: We originally wanted to open entries on the 1st of July, but we are now looking at working with MTBA to make online entries easier for competitors. We want a streamlined online entry process. As a result of these changes entries will open in late July. We will post here as soon as we do.

Q: What is the course like?
A: The course covers very different terrain and riding surfaces it is not overly technical, consisting of fire roads, forest trails, purpose built single track and old tramline descents.

Q: What’s the availability of accommodation and camping?
A: There is free camping at the race village, and plenty of surrounding accommodation, all the stages finish and start at Kellevie race village so once your set up you don't have to move.

Q: What will I need to take ?
A: There will be a competitor information sheet which will be available to download from our website once entries open with lots of detail about the race and what you’ll need. We will provide you with lunch and an early evening BBQ so that’s your main tucker taken care of.

Q: How do I keep up to date with ride days and event information?
A: 1. Keep an eye on our pages on www. Hobartwheelers.com, www.pedalbite.com, www.rotorburn.com, there is also a Hellfire Cup Facebook page which you can join to get notifications. Additionally our website www.hellfirecup.com has a link that allows you to subscribe to official emails and newsletters. So there is plenty of way to keep in touch with what’s happening.

Happy trails
Duncan and the race crew .

Some updates. for those watcing this post

1.Entries will be open this friday :)

2. more ride days coming up in spring, dates soon.

3.new website coming this week with lots more info on the race.

4. We have some cool band announcements for the event presetation feast/after party.

5. We had our first ride test day with 60 riders on the course in the middle of winter and are confident we have an all weather event on our hands.

FAQ(s) :

Q: what is the cost of entry
A: $400 per rider , which includes your lunch and dinner every day, lots of prizes entertainment, the works.
its the best priced 4 day stage race in Australia and with the biggest prize pool.

Q:how come the prize is so much higher for elite guys than it is girls.
A: it isnt, the first female, male, and mixed pair all get $3K, plus the first Pair to cross the line get an additional $12k takning their prize total to $15k. Ok so its likely that the first pair would be male, but not garunteed. It depends on who enters, who finishes etc... However we aknowledge that the likelyhood is a male pair taking the line honours prize, and with every event weve ever had we have matched male and female prize winings, So we have decided that if the event sells out we will provide an additional $12k - broken into $6k to the first female pair and $6k to the first mixed pair.

Q: Can I camp there on the last day?
A: Yep and wed actually prefer it if you get on the gas at the after party, we want you to get through the racing and the drive home in one piece. (not see you drive home a one piece). so yep camping stays open.

Happy trails dg

We have received a few enquiries from entrants who are being charged day licence fees at checkout even though they have a current MTBA annual licence. This occurs for competitors who have a current MTBA annual licence but that licence expires before the event date.

Your day licence fee can be refunded if you do renew your licence before the Avanti Plus Hellfire Cup.

Simply email MTBA members@mtba.asn.au when you are renewing your annual licence before the Avanti Plus Hellfire Cup and seek a refund for the day licence amount you have already paid.

thanks Tony Scott at MTBA for the quick response

oh yeah pics and video of the mtn trails section out soon.

Ride day 28th of October

There will be a ride day on the 3rd of November 10.00am meeting Kellevie Race village
ride length 27ks the actual day 1 morning race loop of the Avanti plus hellfire cup

The 27th of October we will be having a cruisy groom and build Morning and will be meeting Kellevie front gate 9:00 am . finishing at 1:00 if your coming down and want to be feed for after the grooming session email us at duncan@hellfirecup.com and well feed ya!

We are at 1/3rd entry capacity with 6 weeks till entries close. This is twice as many entries this early as any of the 24hours or 6 hours we’ve put on. Lots of people from up north and every state and territory in Australia (except Antarctica but we are working on it) and overseas entries. Are we excited much? yep certainly are .

The ride day trails are a mixture of groomed fast and flowy sections, traditional but not demanding technical forest single track ,and a tramline link up descent. Once we leave Kellevie all the trails and single track are new including the 10k descent back to the race village.
