ditto .... am in for the 50km. A 50km sprint is enough. Did 2:38 last year - need to improve on that, especially the back half where I think I coasted a bit.

Agree, I rode with him yesterday and he smoked me up the climbs while still talking! Admittedly he could talk with a mouthful of marbles underwater!

While your beer + renos might affect your climbing, you're still hammering it when the track points down

Nah, i rather like the 50km distance. It's long enough to "sprint" but still need a good deal of endurance fitness. Plus you're all done and dusted before lunch :-D

I much prefer short and sharp stuff compared to the 6 hour + slogfest/sufferfest. This old rotting carcass of a body doesn't like sitting on a saddle that long!

errr.....define "2 hrs or so" .....
FYI the winning time last year for the 50km was 2:17 - and that kid has represented Australia at the XCO level.

I'm going to do the 50km, my very first event. So i better start some sort of training..
If your not at the front you'll finish in over 3. The downhill sections you get stuck behind the slow guys. You need to be able to pass everyone on the fire trails. Pace your self it's a grueling ride. The first 10ks is a long uphill grind. All in all a nice race. More challenging than wombat. Wombat is more fun though. See you out there.
