Well, the Sony meeting is over and it's real: The Playstation4. Holy fuckballs she'll have some grunt! I watched the meeting and some of the clips the developers showed of upcoming titles are stunning, it really looks like the next step but more to the point, some of the features the console will have are incredible!

The video Ubisoft showed of Watch Dogs looked as though the in game character will use a smart phone to operate certain aspects of the game. I dare say that will mean you can put an app on yourphone and do it with your own phone in your hand. It isn't ground breaking but it sure will immerse the gamer.
The rumor is the machine will be under $500 and out for Christmas this year. Wicked!

I'm a bit dubious about it all. They've revealed a new controller - no pictures of the console- and shown footage of a 3rd generation cross-platform game that was debuted at E3 last year. No price details as yet either. Sony appear to be following the same trend of games developers who'll show off a flashy trailer months if not years ahead of their big-name release, then outsource the programming to a whole host of fuckwits then serve up a big steaming pile of shit at the end of the day (see LA Noire, Aliens Colonial Marines, Duke Nukem Forever, Dead Island etc)

I visited Sony's flagship store last year in Tokyo and I was severely disappointed with what I saw. I'd seen better decked out Harvey Norman's! They've been losing ground on all fronts and this time round I can see them going the way of Sega particularly if the SteamBox comes out this year.

Hmmm, the Steambox. That'd be a game changer. Also, I haven't heard a squeak about it since 2009 but Apple will one day join the console market I reckon. The original story of them testing the scene was very interesting and could add some amazing value to their line up..................if they do it.
It wasn't mentioned in the PS4 reveal but I reckon the system will not have a disc drive and that will only be available as a peripheral. That means every game will be purchased online through their store. I have no data on that but it will be the way to go. Look at mobile an dtablet gaming, all you need is a credit card and an internet connection.

Say goodbye to your ps3 games, not natively compatible! Hopefully this new architecture forces game developers to pick up there shit for PC... I bought a pc as I decided console gaming was becoming a joke..

I'm hanging for GTA 5 to come out...I have a friend who manages a JB HiFi store and he said there's still no word on it's exact release date! Even though they've been taking deposits for months! :p

I've been mucking around on GT5 as I only got my PS3 in the later half of last year...my previous saved game was pretty adavnced but was saved on my old housemates PS3 whom I had a falling out with!

Also been playing F1 2012 here and there...trying to learn the tracks one at a time before hitting a season up! And FIFA 13 every now and again...I'm pretty rubbish so I don't play it much! Hahaha!

Rockstar (the GTA developers) are good at keeping us in the dark then bam! The game is out the next week!
On GT5 I've done everything except for a few enduro races and have been getting my B spec drivers up a little. I like the B spec mode, it makes me feel so advanced!
The F1 2012 model is unreal, it's the best of the three games and is a good challenge. What's your favorite track so far?

The only way I could see Apple entering the console market is with an accessible kiddie console to rival the Wii:U in the casual gamer market. Whilst their 'puters and laptops are more than powerful enough to run modern games (I'm running Skyrim on my Macbook on the high-spec settings just now) their software is useless and incompatible so you've got to use a separate OS to run 'em.
Apple's got too much of a bad rep with gamers to attract their interest and Apples strict 'no meddling' policy certainly won't stand up against Steam's accessibility for both hardware and software mods.

As for the whole 'cloud' gaming issue. I don't think we're ready for it yet. It was 10Gb for me just to download MGS3 the other day and that's just a jazzed up PS2 game. I know software companies want us all to head that way so they can reduce piracy but it's too big a risk for hardware manufacturers, particularly if their rival releases a system that can be played offline. Also Sony still have a vested interest in Blu-Ray so I can't see them giving that up just yet.

Ok that's awesome if that's the case with GT5! Are PS3 games region specific? I'll be in Thailand next week, if games would work I might see if I can pick them up cheap!

F1 2012 - To be honest I haven't driven all the tracks...the tracks I've driven the most are Melbourne, Monaco, Montreal, Abu Dhabi and Singapore...probably my favourite out of those is Singapore...pinning it between the walls is good fun, especially with full damage on! Whats your fave? I really should pull my finger out and do the challenges + season!

My favorite track to drive? Hmmmm, I'll have to say Spa simply because it is the most aero efficient of the tracks. By that I mean you can totally let it rip and not have to feather the throttle too much as long as you have the car set up right. Silverstone is similar to that but a little slower in spots. The new Austin circuit is also tons of fun! The worst track to drive is Monaco. It isn't a drivers circuit, it is just a spectacle.

I love Monaco, it rewards you much more than other tracks while at the same time being an evil bitch if you make a mistake

You got the bitch bit right! How effing tricky is it when you're on a bonanza strategy and the rain starts while you're on slicks! Bye bye podium................

the flaming has started:

On the plus side Sony appear to be refraining from requiring an online connection to play which is just as well as PSN isn't the most reliable of networks.

Microsoft on the other hand appear hellbent on demanding an online connection 24/7 which could hurt their sales with families / people who live in areas with sketchy service and/or extortionate ISPs (i.e Australia)

You just hope your at the swimming pool and can pit, however the reality is your flying into Casino Square and slam into the wall as the grip has gone the way of your 50 euro on the blackjack table

Some awesome times ahead for gamers, particularly Playstation gamers. I've pre ordered my Ps4 but am not too impressed with the launch games. I'll get Battlefield 4 and Watch Dogs but not much else until the better stuff arrives.
For now, the PS3 will still be my system of choice. Grand Theft Auto 5 in September, Batman Arkham Origins and Formula One 2013 are on my radar. I'm part way through The Last of Us and do rate it but can't see why it is dubbed as one of the best video games ever. I've finished Dishonored and moved straight onto The Last of Us and have to say that Dishonored is a lot better to me. Prior to that I had maxxed out Skyrim at three hundred hours and will no doubt play through it again.
What's your gaming future hold? Getting a PS4?

My current console is a PS2! Not used much these days, my kids occasionally play the Annoying Thing game and a Princesses game. I even less play Gran Turismo.

But I am getting a 65" plasma this weekend, so I might get a PS4 once Gran Turismo updates to PS4 version to try it out. I have to research some more as to whether I'll bother.

Gran Turismo 6 is about to land on PS3 so I doubt a full version will make it to PS4 in the next year or so. For what it's worth, you won't be able to play your PS3 games on the PS4 so maybe grab a PS3 for nix while they are cheap? It is and will be a rad machine for a long time yet.
