Pressfit BB's were never for the benefit of the consumer. It was about assembling a bicycle in a machine.

Seriously I think some smart ass at Rockshox picked this 200mm number out of his ass so all warranty claims on bikes with 203mm rotors could be denied. ( I spotted 200mm in some Rockshox warranty statement)

wider than 135 is good if you lost the dish, but alas. 142 was introduced to just get the wheel in easier or some bullshit wasn't it? I can't even recall why. Maybe it allows stiffer swingarms.
Bar clamp standard for brakes and shifters would be nice?

It'll be 20% more compliant and allow the rear wheel to better gravitate itself rotationally resulting in a smoother ride experience, especially for those using our non-compliant wide carbon hookless rims combined with predictive steering forks

I still ride my 1" fork with a threaded steerer and elastomer suspension. Also don't bother with shitty modern brakes, back-pedal all the way!
This cartridge bearing business doesn't make sense, cup and cone is far superior for everything including your headset and bottom bracket. Oh, and hollow-tech is weak, it's hollow. Square taper so dam stiff, just like my 28mm fork stanchions.

As someone who has been cycling all my life, mtbiking since 1990 I think most of them are just bullshit.
Its just marketing + consumerism .
Its easier to say IMHO what have been good.
The real innovations have been air suspension , clipless pedals, index gearing,low gears , long derailleurs,shifters on handlebars, hydraulic disc brakes, frame hydroforming, carbon fibre parts,Hollowtec bottom brackets + cranks, better folding tyres, dry waxy chain lubes.
Maybe bigger wheels, thicker axles.
Most headsets,pressfit bbs,axle widths are just invented to be incompatible + sell more.

I agree with what you posted wholeheartedly. My point was that certain companies are responsible for some of the pointless new standards, these stupid ones had to come from somewhere, and some companies are repeat offenders.
If people know the origin of a pointless standard please call it out.

I was asking myself "?????" when I first saw I-Beam saddle-to-seatpost interface. I still do to some extent. Then I found a really nice looking Kore saddle. Said it was 'T-rail'. Figured T-rail was just some way of saying 'Titanium Rail' or something like that.
No. It's a whole other saddle-to-seatpost interface. Because the first 2 weren't enough.
I haven't read through the thread but we need to keep in mind that riders also want light weight parts. One of the goals for bikes is low weight so they want to reach their goal strength and performance with minimal weight as possible. Maybe the weight is negligible but people buy carbon derailleur covers after all Maybe they don't serve a functional advantage but maybe the advantage lies in the weight for many.
Secondly people search fro minor advantages if something improves a part by 2% its a better part and they will want it.
I don't disagree with the thread but there are also reasons for new standards some who find them reasonable.

Something isn't a standard just because one manufacturer (or even a group of them) claim it to be. That's the problem with "new standards", particularly where they are solutions in search of a problem.
At the end of the day, the bike industry has the potential to shoot itself in the foot with this sort of crap. If you knew that your frame, fork, hubs or wheels were going to be obsolete by 2016, how much would you spend on them? Would you buy a bike now or wait until next year?
For stuff that wears out, its OK for things to rapidly change, but if you're spending $1000 on wheels or a fork or $3000 on a frame that within 12 months is old-hat, then savvy consumers will think twice and just get something cheaper and more disposable.

Things i like:
Tapered Steerers and Headtubes - Strength and stiffness of 1.5 but still able to run a 1.1/8th steerer. Say what you like but its a standard thats here to say and i don't mind.
Thru-axles - Dont confuse this with just 15mm, I'm talking thru axles in general, including 20mm. Yes 15mm was a pain, but people bitch about it far more than needed. Majority of hubs nowadays can be converted. Cost me all of $15 to get adaptors to run revelations on my hope pro 2's. Price of 1.5 drinks at the pub, didn't drink that night and thats not really a bad thing.
Frame construction techniques such as hydro-forming, carbon etc. - Though I'm sorry carbon is priced WAY WAY higher than it needs to be, paying north of $3800 for a frame is stupid.
Narrow-wide chainrings and clutched derailluers - Inventors of these deserve a medal.
Dropper seatposts - Same as above, one of the most significant innovations in MTB in the past fews years
Things i Don't like:
Hub sizes - just keep 135mm for XC/Trail, 142mm for endure and AM and 150mm for DH/FR. Anything else is utter marketing bullshit
27.5 and 29 inch - Absolute rubbish and nothing but marketing bullshit to sell bikes to the doctors. Yes SCIENTIFICALLY better at rolling over things, 98% of people wouldn't be able to tell. I can see the point of 29 on XC bikes, so keep it to that realm.
Overdrive 2 - Giant being pricks cause they are the market leader.
Anything proprietary - Basically any Specialized bike and a few Treks, and lefty

SRAM? for 15mm (110)
Specialized - E150 fork - uses a 25mm axle (didn't that take off)
Maverick - DUC32 and SC32 forks use a 24mm axle
Specialized for 142+ (or whatever they call it - they apportion the 7mm slightly differently compared to normal 142
