Heard it first here.Cunts! When did 144 come in? I was just getting on board with 142. I would assume a typo but I know another standard is more likely!

Front hub: qr > 20mm fair enough. 15mm wtf!
Rear hub: qr > 150mm fair enough. 142, pretty much 135 with bolt on, fair enough. 148+? WTF!!!
.....
Heard it first here.
Pressfit BB's were never for the benefit of the consumer. It was about assembling a bicycle in a machine. You want clusterfuck?
Press fit BB.
JUST STOP IT!!!
Stupid nuclear winterPressfit BB's were never for the benefit of the consumer. It was about assembling a bicycle in a machine.
With you all the way on tapered headsets but not sure about admitting Cannondale were right..
Not amped? out:I'm stoked, pumped it will change the way we ride bikes ound:
...remember that even a broken clock is right twice a day.

Bottom brackets: Moving to threaded or press fit - seems ok. BB86/92? stop it already!
Headsets: Kill me already.
Steerer: 1/18 > 1.5 fair enough. Tapered - SHOW ME THE WEIGHT SAVINGS! OD2 - I maintain this is a good thing to show that the bike manufacturers they can't always pull their bullshit especially if giant can't do it!
Rotors: 6 bolt, Centrelock. Annoying but not crazy since centrelock is better imo. but seriously shimano, you guys agreed to the 6 bolt standard! Some weird rotor sizes but I think we iron all the imperial stuff out haha.
Seatpost: Seriously it's just a tube guys, can we just stick to maybe 2?
Cranks: possibly the worst of the lot. GXP, isis, hollowtech. wtf is going on?
RD hanger- how hard is it really?
Brake mounts: Post mount or whatever the other one is? All it does is give some chinese dude a lot of money to make parts with spare alu for $5 a pop on crc!
Wheel sizes - all good from me. I think if a bike can be bigger/smaller, why not wheels. Lets keep it at 3 though guys! I've overheard 36ers are the craze.
Shifters: Can we all just take a lead from sram and go for 1:1 standard!!! I like to make drop bar mtbs ffs!
Handle bars: 31.7 or whatever is good, we do not need a bigger one!
Integrated shifters: Can we just make a standard! I like sram shifters but shimano brakes.
Brakes: Avid taperbore. Actually, just avid... and dot fluid too.
Kudos to these one for trying to innovate/market without screwing the world over:
- GT Triple triangle
- Spesh Brain
- Giant Maestro and Flexpoint
- Trek G2 - normal forks still fit! lose a bit of trail, all good.
And I know this is a MTB forum but seriously when will Campy just die?
wider than 135 is good if you lost the dish, but alas. 142 was introduced to just get the wheel in easier or some bullshit wasn't it? I can't even recall why. Maybe it allows stiffer swingarms.I am a firm believer that, within reason, any problem can be solved with existing standards using innovation and good engineering. There are exceptions but the rest is marketing bullshit. I do believe that changes in wheel size has been a consistent giver/performance gain in the new standards field. Wheels sizesdefinatley have their merrits, but they milked 29er for all it's worth before releasing 27. Should have gone both together or 27 first at least.
I'll start if off with the 15mm axle. It's been done to death but I'm not convinced. If it was worth doing it could've been done with existing 20mm axle standard. Yeah 20mm was fine. I think it was Fox fighting Shimanno or Rockshox maxle patent or something from memory, they advantages were just made up to sell it.
Backing it up with the tapered steerer. If it was required the the existing standard of straight 1.5 could have been used. I'm not sure who was responsible for this clusterfuck. Please fill the gap if you know. The same goes for you as goes for Fox and Shimano in the preceding comment. 1.5 headtubes are good for conecting fat tubes to for both carbon and ally. No real nead for tapered headtube. The advantages of adjustability with 1.5 top outweigh the fact top tubes are smaller so the top headtube can be too. 1.5 top alows better headset choices. and lower height.
I believe there's some discussion on rear axle standards. I'm still rockin' 135 mm out the back so have now issues here, but if you do, go to town, let it out, and let them know we will be slightly averse to swallowing new standards forced upon us.
Tapered versus straight - pleeeeease! Tapered gives more bonding area for single crowns doesn't it? Delays creaking. Just make good light low travel triples with straight steerer. Only down side would be no X-Ups but you'd get a choice of either, more travel, lower height. and gain more room for internals, stronger forks(crowns).
142 without a wider hub - what a waste Yeah, WTF.
FUCKING HEADSETS!!!!!!! How many does there need to be? again WTF!
SRAM GPX v bb30 - for a start why does GPX differ from shimano unless you re explicitly trying to be arse, second, why do GPS cranks undo from the left and bb30 from drive side ? This is proof positive that you are a company full of fuckwits before you even bought avid brakes LOL.
203mm rotor v 200mm - cunts!USA USA.
bolt circle diameter of XTR cranks, XX, XX1 cranks etc. What a load of crap... Yup, dogs. Not sure if it's patent induced, but low blow. Just make them all direct mount front, now we've finally ditched the front arse hat mech.
Giants overdrive and overdrive 2 system At least they worked that out. Funny as they did 1.5 before a lot of others..
35mm handlebars, WTF. Thanks Easton. Maybe some gains for carbon, as narrow diameters don't take advantage of it's benefits. But how stiff do you want em anyway. Stronger, lighter yes.
I believe Chris King was fighting the move away from a 'standard' headset all the way. Props to them.Yeah they nearly won and made 1 1/4 the standard back in the day, but I think Aheadset burnt them by getting a big contract like Giant or something, anyone remember/want to show their age?
Bar clamp standard for brakes and shifters would be nice?re cannondale, remember that even a broken clock is right twice a day. at 1.30?
I will be amped if 144 x 9 is a thing :behindsofa:
As someone who has been cycling all my life, mtbiking since 1990 I think most of them are just bullshit.
Its just marketing + consumerism .
Its easier to say IMHO what have been good.
The real innovations have been air suspension , clipless pedals, index gearing, low gears , long derailleurs, shifters on handlebars, hydraulic disc brakes, frame hydroforming, carbon fibre parts,Hollowtec bottom brackets + cranks, better folding tyres, dry waxy chain lubes.
Maybe bigger wheels, thicker axles.
Most headsets, pressfit bbs, axle widths are just invented to be incompatible + sell more.
If people know the origin of a pointless standard please call it out.
Frame construction techniques such as hydro-forming, carbon etc. - Though I'm sorry carbon is priced WAY WAY higher than it needs to be, paying north of $3800 for a frame is stupid.
