If I didn't have two kids and the need to tow my race car around I would probably still have Landy's.

The Patrol has a metric shit load more space and the 4.2 diesel now I have turbo'd it has more than enough grunt to out perform V8 or diesel Discos while using less fuel.

Land Rovers are great when you get a good one, but are not the sort of car you would ever recommend a friend to buy. They may not stay your friend if they follow your advice.

The Datto should make more power than that, stock the 1600 made 96hp at the flywheel.

I've got three, a coupe, a sedan and a wagon that I am going to sell.

Might be more than that, I read the spec sheet ages ago (can't locate it now) and just remember thinking "Fricking hell, less than 100!" Thought I read 80 at the fly, might have been at the wheels, might have been something larger than 80, who knows :)

God damn that bus tray is mint. Do you have a full build thread on another forum somewhere? Was hoping to get some more work done on the beetle today but the rain on and off is making it hard. Got the rear decklid on last weekend, if you don't lower it slowly it's violent and slams down hard, maybe a new spring might do it but I kinda like it being so harsh.

But scared I might have to drop the engine again to do the engine seal to the tinware, no flat surfaces to work on don't make it a fun job. Also getting the window seals in is just being a slut, seals keep tearing when trying to pry them over the metal lips even when they're dripping in silicon spray, really don't want to order more of them though.

Yeah, build thread on aussieveedubbers and also kinda here in this thread.......

Dude , don't stress on resto stuff, deep breath ...go have a beer and come back, some rubbers ESP Brazilian are shit to fit , for rubbers always but west coast metric, spend a bit more but it all fits perfectly and lasts a shit load more years than Brazilian shir!

Heya what do you mean by window seals, give me a link to the seals and ill see if I can give you some words of wisdom

Ahh she's gunna be a rat anyway so no need to get stressed over most of it. Plenty of rust so you'd never notice anything we might have done wrong. Couldn't tell you which seals they are, some are german some are braz., just got our vw shop to order them all. We're trying to get them in using some plastic wire to pull the seal out, like this

But when we pull the cable out it catches the rubber and slices through it. Think they are braz seals, all the German parts so far go in perfectly no worries, worth the extra if I was going to do it again. The fender seals don't have the cut outs to go around the bolts, just a 25f strip of fender bead we'll have to cut for each bolt is has to clear.

Brazilian seals are shit esp for windscreen, rear window and the door seals are usually just as bad...... Like the vid says ... 2 people are good. I have never used wire rope , I always use nylon rope about 6/7 mm diameter.....

Good luck wid it......

Yeah it's usually two of us working on it, can't imagine doing the windows solo. Will give that nylon rope a go. Tried to do a bit more today but found the front 'hood' seal is a three piece seal not a 1 piece. Getting confused on what year this car is, uses '60 seals for the bonnet but has a '61 tank and is a '61 according to the cars numbers. To save having to order more seals I might cut the corners of the current 1pce and convert it to a 3pce, or maybe drill locating holes for the rubber pins, not sure yet. Found a couple of nasty rust holes under the old bonnet seal, contemplating putting new seals in and just pretending I never saw them.

Quarter vent seals have arrived but off to work in the highlands till the weekend so won't pick them up till Monday, hopefully by next weekend I'll have windows and bonnet back on and sealed up.

Drilled holes in the shell for the hood seals, went down and looked at another beetle today and had the holes there from factory, there's no evidence of ours ever having them or being welded up. Doesn't sit quite right but better than nothing, has a bonnet now so at least rain isn't a big issue anymore. Rear window seal is beyond use, too much splitting in the rubber to use again, will order German this time..

Front end needs to be pulled out a little bit, this is a budget build, I've been told to tie the section that needs pulling with a ratchet to a tree and pushing on the cable till it pulls the dent out, anyone got experience with this?

Can I have Brazilian women in my vw?

Put on the front fender on the side that needs pulling, it almost lines up, I think with a bit of persuasion and tightening the fuck out of the bolts it might just bolt up, slamming the bonnet might even lock it in place. This car might be an experiment of how to do everything the wrong way and get away with it.

EDIT: Binner, just found a WCM dist. about an hour from me, gotta head that way next week anyway, might give him a call tomorrow and ask if he's got any of their window seals. Going to bin all the window seals, their cal look with no chrome, going for full chrome instead.

Now that's a old school jigging method. It should pop out easy not much strength in the beetle front ends.

Hey Binner what shops do you use to get Genuine VW stuff for your T2?
I used 'just kampers', and I've see 'The bus stop' but what are other good shops to checkout ??
Don't want to buy crappy Brazilian Parts only want Genuine German parts or Equivalent. :)
Cheers Mate.

Went out of my way to buy proper genuine seals for the vw today, seemed excellent quality, west coast metric stuff. Rear quarter window seals seemed way too small but were the right shape and with two of us stretched over, got the chrome molding in no worries. While I was getting the car ready to install the windows I came back to find the rubber seal split at the seam still on the window. Took an hour to get the thing on only to find it split in two and unusable.

Guess I'm glad it happened off of the car but they weren't cheap and it has to be a manufacturers fault, the seam is split dead in the middle. Were they the wrong seals maybe? Can't think of which glass they might have been for.

^^^^^ gotta be wrong seal, WCM is perfect fit all the time....I've been using them for over 20 years in restos without drama... Always good to warm up seals in the sun to give them some stretch, once they are in they can't split.

Now, my question to any clutch specialists out there. I have a 1700 lb clutch in my engine and just pulled it to check a engine block leak but noticed these marks on the plate and pressure plate, is this normal, it's like shit has got smashed between the plate, lots of dry looking oil/grit on the flywheel too.....on a long drive the other day, Byron to Bris it started to slip on high revs in 4th but if I let off the pedal it drove just fine, almost felt like my clutch pedal needed adjusting.....
