Project Car / Motorbike thread. Let's see 'em.

Fun with trailers.

Entrepreneurial! I assume one is for sale once your return? Gotta respect that.
Both for sale :) $1200 each in Melbourne, 350 to put them on the boat (may as well if I’m going south with a towbar anyway) and a couple of hundred for inspection and rego in Tas. Will sell for around 2.5K each.

Pays for the ferry basically. Bought a few before when moving to tas to bring shit across and they all sold quickly and profitably.

$1000 a trailer, nice sideline to pay for the trip

99% of the galv dipped trailers in Aus come from China now as they simple cant compete with the price and galv quality.

The wheel arches don't extend down below the 'A' frame so they can be stacked for shipping. Then bolt on leaf springs, axles and optional cage.

A container load of unregistered 8 x 5 cage trailers negotiated from a Vic seller like Modern Trailers or similar could be a decent NBD money spinner.

The tieing down is most impressive.
That’s jsut holding the tailgate shut - the cage is flat packed inside and some sections are a bit long. I didn’t pack that, and have before I head south moved them on top (on the “bottom” of the top one) and tied down there. Much much neater. And tailgates properly shut.

The top trailer is bolted to the bottom one along each edge. They actually suggested I just ratchet strap the two together! Jsut no… Got them to drill holes and bolt it down!!

Ok, I think I jsut got ripped off on the Hyundai, and my uncle just failed to properly check it for me.

Fluid was filthy gross and brown, and plenty of sludge in the pan when I dropped it. Symptoms are no converter lockup and at 80-100 some random flipping between 3 and 4. I never actually drove it hot or at highway speeds before I serviced it so maybe it was already doing this before I changed the fluid…

Any thoughts from the brains trust on those symptoms? Apart from what I think is just going to be eating $2K to have a good used trans put in it…

3 things usually affect lockup converters, TPS, Speed sensor and auto oil pressure. 1st thing I would check is that you got the right oil in there and it's at the right level when the gearbox is hot.

Umm hello Mr Senna.

I was talking to the guy who transported the Senna to Bathurst and he reckons there most be over 10 of them in the country.

But they are apparently slower than the GT3 RS.

Fluid level is I think ok, and i used Penrite ATF FS which is what the penrite selector at least called for. And I used it on Mums other i30 and it was happy for the 100K kms she had it for. But it behaved ok today on a shorter less intensive trip, so maybe at least it isn’t super urgent. I’m back on the boat to tas tomorrow so I’ll get the workshop in town I’ve used a few times to do things I couldn’t do to look at and see if it’s got codes etc.

And get them to do a wheel alignment - the dickhead that sold it to me had new control arms put in, but didn’t do the wheel alignment. It’s toeing out so bad it’s almost funny…

And get them to replace the brand new AC belt tensioner pulley I fitted that’s making horrible noises. Sigh. Should have stumped up the extra 3 euros for the better brand.

The speed sensor comment got me thinking. It was so amazingly badly out of alignment that it scalloped the front tyres inside a hundred kms - it was toeing out so much it almost was tracking well… Seller had new control arms fitted, but didn’t do an alignment…

But I’m thinking it might have been enough for the transmission computer to have eventually picked up on some speed data discrepancies and killed the converter lockup. It’s an optimistic idea, but I’m going with it for now!
