A big morning out at Mt Tamborine inspecting the track. We will write up some notes from the meeting and send an update out soon.

Good model to follow

I was just reading thru the normal bike porn websites I usually trawl through first thing in the morning, and came across this article:

http://www.nsmb.com/3994-pangor-trail-day-report

It illustrates the strength and maturity that Vancouver's North Shore trail crews are at, where not only are they getting good support from riders to carry out trail care, but also industry and businesses helping out to provide some presence and support - prizes as incentives for trail volunteers coming to help out.

For the Brisbane (and any other location for that matter) downhill scene to get to this stage would be a worthy objective to aim for.

We have a dream

Thanks for that link Stint. It's quite inspirational. You are right - if our Dump Run Crew can have a similar culture, that will be sustainable as well as the tracks we build!

It is amazing how much trail work can be achieved by several passionate workers.

They definitely seem to have a pretty supportive community with the coffee guys and local bike stores getting behind them. Shame Tamborine has no local bike store or anything of the sort.
BUT at least we have a group of people that share a common interest :)
It's a start!

If there is no local bike shop, then we try and get support from the importers/wholesalers - they manage the brands that the city shops sell.

There may not be a local bike shop but I know we all shop at a couple of bike shops around Brisbane? They seem reluctant at this stage to even show an interest but I was the only person who had made my LBS aware of any issue or campaign. Speak to your bike shops and businesses and get them involved tell them to support MTN BUG and support their mtn bike community.

Make your local bike shop aware

Thanks Kenny B. KB's message is simple - alert YOUR local bike shop, make them aware of this campaign and make them aware that we may need their financial help in some way in the future. I'm sure we can come up with a commercially viable package for them to benefit from their investment.

The certainly did good guys ground effects.

I suggest we need to make a Flyer that can be put up in shops and circulated around. Anyone want to have a stab at it? I suggest mocking one up in powerpoint or the like.

I'll give it a crack. I came to this forum a bit late but I have read the last few pages and get the gist, what needs to be said on the flyer?

The pic of the 'track closed sign' on Mountain Bug Facebook site has good impact. I think that a heading like -

'Tamborine Mtn. Dump Run Closed' is a clear heading that all will understand.

Stage 1. is just getting this fact out there and that a campaign to have a track in some form openned is underway.

Also mention that sooner or later we will need the support of all in the mountain bike community - riders and shops etc.

Many thanks TL!

Have a go create what you think then we can post it here and with input from the thread we can workshop it.

I'm not trying to be a negative nancy here but you guys are talking/doing so much about nothing.

The track was never legal in the first place for crying out loud.

Lets be honest here too, the track really isn't that amazing. It's convenience surpassed it's slight lack of quality.

At the end of the day, the dump run isn't going to be that sorely 'missed'. I can tell you now people are still riding it because they a) don't know or b) quite simply don't care about the "closure".

Put your collective efforts into a more worthwhile trail campaign in my opinion.

We are aware that the track is not legal, however you used to be able to ride the vehicle track legally and even that is now closed to bikes. If we do nothing and the track is closed then this will only increase issues at other tracks and they to will become a problem and be closed. This is just one of many Dh tracks that have been closed in recent years. At some point if downhill riders want to have a legal venue to use they will have to stand up and be part of the solution.

You are entitled to your opinion, I would be interested in your opinion on what a more worthwhile campaign is?
