I work in education and this song always makes me a little sad, as it so vividly reminds me of a conversation I had with a young fella many years ago who was distraught when his dad left his mum. The situations referred to in the song are eery in the manner that they so accurately portray a real life situation:

Absolutely. I couldn't agree more.

Breaks my heart to think of my little fella feeling like the boy in the song. Having had some challenging times with marital issues, this is more than enough motivation to keep plugging away...

I hears ya mate; I've seen it so many times and it's a heart breaker, even more so when you have the perspective of a parent (no offence or lack of perspective implied for non-parents, just an observation in regard to my own experience-borne change of perspective). Having said that, I've seen marriages that should've dissolved stay together, to the detriment of all parties.....ah, 'tis a complex web haha! We digress.....I also find this song to capture with such depressing beauty the inability of a discarded partner to move on....

George Jones - He stopped loving her today.

The singer tells the story of a friend who has never given up on his love. He keeps old letters and photos from back in the day, and hangs on to hope that she would "come back again." The song reaches its peak in the chorus, revealing that he indeed stopped loving her – when he passed away. She attends his funeral

A bit eerie, a touch creepy but definitely emotional:

(intro is also really good).

It's about a boy whose girlfriend's mum won't acknowledge his existence.

I have this in my collection and it's pure gold. Kind of like a contemporary version of what Rod Stewart's "Maggie May" might have been at the time... Or not... I'll just shut up now...

This sort of music isn't really my cup of tea, I like only listen to gansta rap cause I can relate to the stories....and all the swearing makes me feel like a man. I don't have feelings.

Anyway I had a quick look at the start of the thread and like plenty of others on here I love a good blast of Tom Waits. So much variety in his music. If I had emotions I would add his tune old shoes to this thread.

Johnny Cash, on the evening train. Cut to the 27 second mark.

Reminds me of flagged caskets being loaded into/out of hercs to go home. A voyage of respect, commitment, reunion and loss. Can't help but shed a tear.

You don't have to be soft to be miserable. :)

And I remember the day
We sat in some strange ...
And nothing much to say
Nothing at all

I loved you
And I still do
You know I loved you
And I still do
