Hey guys

I bought a trail map the other day for high country activities and it said that there was a MTB area at the base of Mt Buller too just accross the road from Sawmill?

Is this true? If so are they any good?

and the rest

was about Mansfield - if you talk to the guy in the local shop. he was very helpful to us, drawing maps to the former dump that is going to be a mtb park and the singletrack that leads to/past it - which i'd recomend

BTW retro, how are you finding australia? have you managed to get out and ride without having to become part of the race scene?

Don't know about "area" but is that where Klinsporn comes out?
I don't think so, tha't just an open are with a couple of picnic tables.. there was a timber mill there way way back when they used the klingsporn trail to bring timber out on horseback. Glad they put in the hard work so long ago with the foresight of providing us with such a fun long track!! should be more of it!!:p
P.S. If only Buller would put in that much effort and foresight..:(
PPS. Also that map shows the track on the Delatite river side of the road, klingsporn is on the sawmill side.. Be intersting to find this trail one day

Shannon at www.allterraincycles.com.au is the guy at the local Mansfield store.

The single track is known as Rifle butts (due to name of the road) and it's get used by all genres of riders and even the school occasionally.

Plenty of nice tracks around- drop in and see them.

(I'm an ex mansfield resident.)

The area is at Carters Road.

There are some singletracks to the right after the bridge crossing.

Also, climb the fire road (straight ahead when crossing bridge) for about 5 or 6kms and after a tight left hand turn look left and you'll see a singletrack heading back down the hill, its call the Tramways.

There is also a track called Valley Views which is accessible by climbing the other fire road, I haven't done this track in years and don't know what condition it is in.

Ahh.. Riflebutts...Rode that years ago with the Pullens who used to do MTB tours during the warmer months (they had the ski hire)
So that trail is still there? I recall Chris saying there was a track known as 'powerlines' further up the hill that made a loop.

Last time I went home powerlines was overgrown and full of down timber. Tis a nice ride though if you can enjoy a climb, you end along side a cliff then verge down some nice rocky bits and back around.

Riflebutts is still there and the old tip ( on the same road ) is being used as another MTB place, unsure of it legalities there at the moment though.

One of the crew broke his back/neck not so long ago on Tramways.

How did he manage that?! its a lovely gentle trail!?!? was up there this weekned and totally enjoyed it
I'm fairly sure it was on tramways that it occurred (few months back now) , sometimes when your guard isn't up is when the worst accidents can happen.

That whole NE region of Victoria screams so much potential having grown up there, if only we could build where we want. :p

I think you'll find that the Klingsporn Trail originated as a way to get cattle to the top of Buller which the Klingsporns had the grazing lease for. Klingsporns still live in the area.
