I said it 2 years ago ill laugh at the shit shops that wouldnt cut a deal, tried ripping me off. Certain places ive got my eye on for a big haha. Ill support your closing down sales….
Thats what you get for prioritising the newbie Covid guy rather than me being a mtb’er since 96 and a repeat customer.
One Big Distro id love to see close too.

For the first time in ages - You can get discounts on bikes - so the tough times for bike shops are coming as the suppliers will look to hold on to profits as long as possible and the shop will wear the cost of trying to generate sales.
Yeah, that gravel bike I bought a little while back was originally RRP $4k, but I got it for $2750. Chatting with the owners of the shop after I bought it, I was told that everyone's big orders that were made to service the COVID rush had come through but the rush had passed. Now everyone's warehouses are full of last year's models whilst the new models are en route (as it was a few months back when I had this chat) and they desperately needed to move stock. Although, in saying that, the supply of parts is/was still very patchy.

A real change from the COVID days - he tells me that they had to have staff on the door, stopping people from coming in when the shop was full and there was a line of people snaking its way down the street.

100% this, I was lucky to pick up a certain bike before the shop closed in Sydney for half price. Santa Cruz's were apparently walking out the door during covid, probably helped where the shop was had a relatively high income %.
Locally Pushies and 99 Bikes did pretty well, as a few of the local schools setup MTB class's which probably is going to help local shops buffer a little bit being Canberra isn't super competitive. Grammar school has set up a MTB class and parents there are naturally competitive by nature so spending decent money at the moment.

I'm hoping with the market becoming more competitive 'competing for your dollar' then more shops, will spend money on web design, the site for CRC has always been pretty woeful, the search is interesting.
MTBD and Pushys are the same, the sites just aren't to great and with the era of E-commerce apparently still huge, its a wonder more money isn't being spend on the mobile sides and creating great UI and search algos.
If the sites worked better I would spend more time and probably more money filling my cart with 'emotional or impulse' purchases.

Be interesting for the CRC team as well. If the business goes so does all the sponsorship. Already seen a few brands pull out of Enduro.

Online retailers very reluctant to discount anything at the moment. Just specials or clear out of odd/older stock. Interesting times ahead.

This 100% for a lot of businesses.

When I'm searching for some obscure part for a pump at work any website that only has a heading for said part type and not at least a list of the different options doesn't get my business. Granted some of these companies are owned by older people who don't internet, but some are quite big and well known suppliers.

The other side of this is an Engineering supplier I've used 3 times now out of Sydney, they list every single part man has ever made on their website, and amazingly always in stock... Recently was chasing some not super common parts that no-one local had and amazingly this place had it in stock. Sweet, put the order through, paid a ridiculous premium for bulky express 1-3 days shipping, oh well I need it. Well, no surprises... 2 days go past and tracking shows the item hasn't left yet, give them a call... "Oh we've had some funny glitches with our stock system, we should get it to the warehouse friday, or maybe next week, sorry about that"
Lesson learnt.... fuck those guys.

Or the same guys with said unobtainabium part will only sell them in bulk of 100plus or something even though they are a retailer. Obviously they aren’t going to make money popping one off item in an envelope but they might we’ll gain a happy repeat customer that will buy 100x off next time or something.

In other news I had a warranty return at MTB direct recently. Couldn’t have beenhappier with the customer service. They had a new item on the way to me the same day, didn’t quibble and the communication was excellent. Little bit surprised actually.

Ironically the lack of the periodic sales means i am actually spending less... they are better off getting 50% of the profit instead of 0%

That Dorado Comp I bought from Wiggle, I offered them the option of refunding me $200 for the 15mm Axle conversion kit and I'd keep it.
Although they had it listed wrong, who buys a dorado (or any DH fork for that matter) thinking it's got a 15mm axle?
1 cross check before purchase would have confirmed it's 20mm, as they have been for every Dorado ever.

I hope you got a 20mm wheel for it rather than using that forkmods kit.

Their customer service has always been second to none, in my experience. I'll always check their website if I'm in the market for something - even if it's a few dollars more I'll seriously consider buying from them. I know, with 100% certainty that if there's an issue, they'll be genuine in the way they approach it with me.

Missed this reply.

A drunk man, who was pointed there with short notice by a RB member, it was bough 15 minutes later without even knowing the Comp was a spring only. I didnt know much about DH forks, I didn't know they only came in 20mm forever. I do remember RockShox 'nearly' switched their DH forks to 15mm in about 2019. Was thinking 15mm was maybe the way they were going.

I hope you got a 20mm wheel for it rather than using that forkmods kit.
I sent the Comp back and bought an Expert instead, then a 20mm boost wheel.
