Wot would u chose out of a Spesh Big Hit Expert and a Giant Dh Comp, both 04 models? From what I can find so far they both seem to be the same price, just a couple of different specs. Do u think the sherman sliders r better than the jr t's?

Yeah DH comp is a better bike. Sherman Slider's rock. I have tried some and they are soooooooooooo plush. Reallynice bike too. Well set up and thought out.

Don't know about the rest of the spec but I'd choose the sliders over a jr T any day.

I know one of my riding buddies is selling an 03 bighit expert for an insanely low price because he needs the money fast. i think he has come down to around 3700. this bike is in mint condition, has seen very little use, has super t's, xtr gear, hayes mags, and he is chucking in a brand new 661 full bravo 2 with brand new spy goggles, and even fox raptor shinnys aswell i think, and maybe even new fox shorts, he needs the money. All original gear. He has an add on the mtba site: http://www.mtba.asn.au

hey Atomik....just sent ur mate an email..hope he still has it!

Actually i was looking at the Norco Atomik 04's(3000aus) :) ....but just think the Big Hit would be better for an all round freeride/jump/huck ??
Have u got an Atomik, how is it?

Ill tell ya now ive seen DH Comps ridden at world cups and in both red bull rides, but never a low end specialised. (rarely a high end specialised)

go the giant.

No doubt, the Comp is one of the best all round value for money DH rigs EVER! The JrT's were and still are sweet as, make no mistake, but your talking 'older' technology now.

The 04 Sliders with SPV are just a superior product based on evolution rather than revoluvtion. I ride them on my Fluid and have to say of all the u/g's on the rig they are the best..hands down.

I'm not going to slag Speccy's, but why rack your brain any longer...go get an 04 Comp!

Yeh i'm pretty sure he still has it. I have an 03 atomik, its an awesome allround bike, i can get through dirtjumps fine with it and even do some skateparks with it, ofcoarse u can't beat a hardtail for that stuff though, thats y i'm selling it and buying a dh bike and hardtail. I would say the atomik can do anything a bighit can, but obviously the bighit has more travel but is only slighly heavier. I beleive the 04's come with emo 7" jnrs and 6.5"'s in the rear though, so now there isn't a whole lot of difference excpet performance. the super t's would kill emo jnr's, and xtr versus deore?. i think u should definately buy the bighit, its in brand new nic.

i rate the DH comp as better value.

will someone with coherent thinking, and the abillity not to offend, please defend the bighit.

berrecloth does 360 drops on bighits....surely that has to count for some cred.

but if i had the cash i would go the DH comp

The thing it comes down to is value for money. THe Gear that is on the giant is better value for your buck than the big hit. Both the big hit and giant DH are great frames and if you were just looking between frames it would pb be alot different but considering we are looking at the package that each company is presenting, the landslide towards the giant is understandable.

Comparing frames: The big hit is from specialized and specialized build there stuff to not break! and If you do manage to break it, they have a lifetime warrenty. Giant DH frames since 02 have had problems with pivots comming loose and falling out. Each year this problem is improved but not sure if they have realy worked out the bugs yet. Also, there are quite a few reports of both the front end and rear end of giants cracking. From what I have heard warrenty is a bit of a hastle with giant(slow) but things do eventually get done and I "think" I heard they got a crash replacement thing going so you can get your new frame parts for cheap if warrenty doesn't cover it. The big hit is a get on it and don't worry about it, the Giant Dh need a bit more preperation(lock tight pivot bolts etc) and a bit more maintainance over its life but is still a World class DH frame.

If you ain't primarily DH racing I would recommend the big hit. If you are primarily DH racing, get the giant.

both great bikes
the big hit isnt used for racing because of the 24in rear wheel but it can take shit loads of abuse and is more of an alround freerider that if needed can be somehow pedeled up hill

the dh comp on the other hand is more DH specific bike with the geometry setup for that and you definately wont wonna pedal that thing up
front deriallure cant be setup

specialized is more adjustable which is again makes the bike more versatile ie can setup for DJ etc

i think the comp has better componets

i like both designs currently owing a big hit
but i think for me id choose the Giant cause of the lower CG and i like the design

but both are great bikes and ride both at least parking lot test to see which one you prefare

big hit

i ride a big hit DH 02 and a mate rides an 03 DH comp both sweet rides but he keeps getting loose bolts around the linkage. Easy fix with locktite but still a pain in the ass. The Giant dose pedel better but like someone said the big hit can take some abuse iv been jumping the 13 stairs to flat at the key heaps and nuthins broke yet. Giant probley would be better value but you gotta love the spechy!!!!

go the giant

By all means it sounds like there are still a few teething problems with the giant , but like anyone i speak to, when was the last time you actually saw a specialized on the podium. go the giant and if anyones worried about the rear shock getting dirty and silly things like just put a cover on it ,and the giant sales and service warranty's seem to be very consistent. :D

i thought that the dh comp would probly come out best. basically i wanna do a bit of freeriding with some dh racing. I am fairly light and am not real worried about a bike being strong enough or not. id say the giant is more than strong enough for nethin id wanna do. the only thing id wanna know is can the front chainring on the giant be changed to sumthin with 2 rings, cause my local track is up a long hill and i dont have much means of transport yet, so id be riding to most places. also i was possibly considering waiting until the end of the year to get a new bike in the sales, as long as they dont sell out before then.
