i guess quick release anything is a problem on most bikes. Tho if u wrap a chain through both wheels and the frame it would deter most people.

The problem is if someone wants to steal something bad enough, theres not much they wont do.

make it look like a peace of shit.notice how alot of messengers have good bike but the common jo would think it's peace of junk. but that dosn't do a hole lot for your cred when your cruzen the beach . by a bike that dosn't look that desiarable. don't lock it in a dark seedy allys. by a good lock and use it.
put bolt throught axles on the back and front and the seat piler.

i dont leave my bikes any where except in my room because i could not replace them

the best way to keep it safe is to not leave it any where.

but i spose that you could buy 3or4 locks and lock all the bits of your bike up or buy a huffy nobody likes huffys these days.

my ride to school bike is a repco crappy road bike
people give me crap about so i spose it,s safe then.

I had my Specialised FSR stolen from my old house. Completely my own fault, didn't have it locked up.
Now I keep my bike locked at all times when its out of my sight, I've gotta bolt thru rear wheel now so it makes locking everything up a lot easier.
If you really want peace of mind though, get the bike underwritten on your home and contents insurance policy. My FSR was and even though it was totally unsecured, I still got the full insured value of the bike back from the company. Underwriting a bike might seem a bit extreme, but for most of us it's probably the second most expensive piece of property we own (after our car and I did say PROBABLY) so the hassle at first could save you some serious grief later on down the track.

yeh i dont leave my bike anywhere without locking it up and when i do leave it locked up im only away for a short time.

Locks only keep the good people out. As Josh said if the crims want it they find a way to get it. So make sure that its insured under you home and contense insurance.

Iv never had my bike stolen. (touch wood). Youve just got to be unlucky i recon. And it will happen when you least expect it.

i got my bmx stolen when i was camping but that was because of my retardness, rode it drunk as a skunk one night and left it about 5 metrees from the tents just lying on its side, gone the next morning.

i reckon they should invent some sort of bike alarm. like under the platic covering of the chain there should be some sort of cable, and once the cable is cut an alarm is sounded on the bike and also a message is sent to your mobile phone and maybe even the police. whatcha think. anyone wanna develop this idea with me?

I have my bike insured under an insurance firm that looks after bikers (we had to switch our home and contents ins. over to this firm as well.)
Any of my bikes are covered up to the value of $20 000 each from theft either from my home, the back of my car, lying around at a race or antyhing. Internationally its only insured to the value of $3000...:(
Also covered for damage during transport and even down to things such as leaning my bike on a shop window and breaking it - im covered :D gotta be happy with that.

A big chunky lock is always good, but nothing surpasses the simple principle of not leaving your bike lying around. anywhere.
