As much as I'm not a fan of the Orange one, I think he says crazy stuff to get a reaction which seems to work most of the time.

Once he says 'We will take it' then other players in the region have to step up and respond since they sure won't want Gaza being turned into middle eastern Florida with a Gaza edition Trump Tower and optional military ports in the mediterranean. Imagine the cheap fuel for those 7 Litre pick up trucks though.

Or maybe it is just....................

The US president outlining the US military occupation of gaza and the ethnic cleansing of it's people is without doubt the most bat shit crazy thing I've ever heard. No mid east country will accept those people, firstly because it means acceptance of ethnic cleansing of muslims, and secondly the arrival of 2.3 million palestinians from gaza is a massively politically and demographically destabilising event that those countries he wants to accept them have experienced after the first nakba and won't repeat again. Palestinians are probably just going to die slowly in camps while american developers with right of return sell their land.

I reckon Dutton's walking a very fine tightrope with these kinds of statements. Trump's popularity peaked on January 20th, it's all downhill from here, and the inevitably endless stream of verbal shitposting he'll continue to do until our election is going to become an increasing liability. Aligning himself with Trump will please the plentiful Christian fundamentalists and other nutjobs within the Coalition, but it'll hurt Dutton everywhere else.

I'm not so sure. I seem to be continually surprised how many people there are in Australia that have the same mentally as the MAGA supporters, where no matter how ridiculous the claim, and even if it negatively affects them, they will stand by that call.
That's what Trump plays on. He knows that no matter what batshit things he says or does, his supporters will stand by him.

It's an interesting point and I'm hopeful you're right. I am also aware though that we all live in our own online bubbles and that the conversation among people who are pro-Trump may look very different to what you and I see.

That said, I'm still very hopeful and leaning towards agreeing with you that as reality bites all but the white tech-bros, people will start to shift against Trump. Of course, the damage will already be done (already IS done) to the US but hopefully it doesn't infect us/others...

I have a lot of faith in that Dutton can mess up his supposed lead by pretending to be a mini-me Trump. He is good for it.
He probably doesn't have much else to offer and those bandwagons need a' ridin'.............
