Urgent help needed: .rar files.

I need to open an .rar file to prepare for work tomorrow.

I double click on it and it just creates some kind of blank file in my documents folder. How am I meant to open this thing and access the content?

I'm on a Mac, any help appreciated.

no idea for mac but for PC .rar is a compressed file and you use winrar (i think) to extract it so i'd say you'll have to download a program no idea what one for mac tho

Yeah, .rar is a compressed file and yes winrar does work for pc's.

I like a program called "UnRarX" on mac.

Nice and simple, should be able to download it everywhere on the net!

Yep, UnRarX is the way.

I'm pretty sure Google is blocked by the Great Firewall of China.

That was actually part of my problem, stuffit stopped working for me recently. Might just need to download a new version or something....
