Maybe that's why they don't deflect much mud?:( I started to put the front one on the opposite way, but it didn't want to play, so I broke protocol and followed the destructions.
I put new holes in the front guard for cable ties so that they line up with the arch of the fork , they don't usually stop a lot of mud just stop the water spraying into your eyes and rocks hitting the back of the fork stanchions.

I think I have plenty of holes (I bought 2 sets, 1 large, 1 medium) I just need to turn it around the right way.

those mud guards dont really stop your bike getting muddy.. the front one, when fitted correctly is pretty good at stopping most of the mud from hitting you in the face though. i occasionaly fit a rear one to try and stop mud making its way into rear suspension linkages, not sure it does very much but it makes me feel better about riding in the mud.
Make it easy, dont fu#k up your good MTB or the trails when its muddy, ride the gravel and save yourself bike wear.

I have to dodge mud running 4WD and MX hoons on my trails. My little tyres are the least of the problem.
Mud holes !

I'm over smashing chains, chainrings, derailleurs, pivots, suspension and especially brake pads in the wet and mud.

Its ok if I get caught in a race, won't bother if I have the choice.

I've waited over 2 weeks for the mud to dry up. Even went a few days not riding at all. Today, after my 3 hours of turmoil (simple bicycle maintenance) I went muddin' on my single speed and got me some zen.

I got my tool kit from CRC today. I didn't have an account and got a $20 discount (spend $100) for "my first order". So I got some Nukeproof composite pedals, some mudguards, and a chain tensioner added on for a total of $100.47. Free shipping too.

Another 5 minute job (fit chain tensioner) turned into a 3 hour ordeal. Should be in the fuckwits thread. Quick link refused to play. After a good ten minutes of jiggling, using pliers, then gear cable ..... ended up tying the cable to the fence and gripping the other end with vice grips ..... a few serious yanks later it came apart .....

Another tensioner that doesn't like my bike. When used as prescribed it pushed the chain up onto the chainstay. That was a quick easy fix though. It's a rerailleur now.

Mudguards ($1.87 ea) I needed to make the $99 free delivery after the $20 discount took me too low. Don't like them. Seems to be more mud on the bike than on the underside of the guards. o_O

Pedals .... fark! They has grip for dayz. No shuffling for position on these plates. Same price that I paid for Odyssey Twisted composite BMX pedals. (~$35)....no comparison at all ... worlds apart.

Also got a new stem from @fatboyonabike today. Decided to put that on while I was at it, which inspired me to (finally) cut my steerer tube.
That wasn't as scary as I'd led myself to believe. Cockpit extension is perfect.

Even got a bonus packet of lollies. So I ate them and took my bike for a ride in the mud.

I love the Nukeproof composites, run them on everything. And they colourmatch the turquoise yeti, and the bright orange HT.

After the previous days torrential rain, we weren't very hopeful for conditions on the Bay of Fires ride.

Apart from the 1.2k section known as the potato patch, which we skirted using the fire trail, conditions were mint.

First descent is awesome, and the sandy descent was as good as it gets because of the rain bedding it in nicely.

In our group us naturally aspirated's were outnumbered by the e-moto pests.

Put in some laps at Buxton. The first one, when no-one else was around, was almost perfectly Zen mountain biking, felt so good.
Was cramping like crazy by the end, and I ruined my shoulder helping some people move a downed tree off the trail.
It was interesting hearing the e-bikers talk about Strava times, I'm assuming there isn't a separate e-bike section?

The idiot doing 65kph in a 100 zone on the way home helped ruin the mood

I have in my sweaty hands one of the Specialised Australia demo Levo Comp bikes. Got the sag set for my weight yesty arvo, gonna go for an assisted ride today. We have a gravel driveway on a slope, it loops back on to the road and when I'd finished with the shock pump and giving the rear wheel a bit of a true-up I had some fun doing powered wheel stands and pedalling uphill trying to power slide through the corner. You could ride an eMTB in such a way that you don't work very hard at all, but I find it encourages me to ride harder ! and I'm a lazy git so that's not a bad thing. Every time I park it I'm gasping :p

Brake maintenance day for me today. Replaced the master cylinder seals on my commuter front brake (Hope Tech 3) master cylinder (it had started to go a bit squelchy and was making it feel spongy even though it wasn't actually losing oil. Next was pop out, lube and reinstall pistons on a spare V4 caliper. Then fitted the V4 caliper (upgrading from E4) to the Waltly. Then the obligatory bleeding of both sets of brakes. Plus a bonus easy job to finish off, installed some "stealth" decals on the Waltly's 36 as a little protection against any potential scuffs or scratches.
