What did you do TO / WITH / FOR your bike today!

Minor stuff today after a bout of spicy cough last week... Fitted new Slik "stealth" fork decals (had decals with silver lettering as an option too, but didn't fancy them with the red hubs...), trimmed the bars 5mm each end (~790mm now), gave the front brake lever a bit of a "jiggle'n'pop" (pull the lever tight, then slide your finger off the lever so it flicks open instantly - helps to shake any micro-bubbles from trapped positions in the caliper - the perks of missing the right bleed tool reservoir cap still!). Seems to have chased out the very slightly spongy feeling I had at the front lever from my first rough bleed now luckily.

Looking forward to getting it up into the hills this weekend! :)

Saw one of these in the flesh a couple of weeks ago on the trails down here - very very slick looking bit of kit!

Weekend bike related stuff but no riding.
Did some digging in the black hole that is my shed and pulled out a drivetrain and brakes for the hallions spitty, surprised myself by finding another dropper I forgot I'd bought a while back.
Went to 99bikes and had a fwitless experience unlike @ashes_mtb, decided to splurge an extra $2 and bought an XTR bottom bracket instead of the XT one as it is normal size but could have saved the $2 as my BB spanner fits both. WTF Shimano is the reason for the two sizes??
Whilst there I had a look at a bike for a friends son as my wife dumped me in it as the "mountain bike guy". Initial discussions were can you suggest a bike for around $500 polite answer umm not really, anything new will be pretty basic and used would be a gamble and they're not really bike people.
I haven't heard of the brand but the black friday pricing on these seems a pretty good deal so I've suggested they up the budget to $700. Fingers crossed it was ok advice...

Saw a couple of red specialised motorcycles there - is yours dark red or bright red?
Bright red.... with two flat tyres.:p

I missed a junction on the first lap as I was approaching the start of the black Cliffhanger trail. I got excited when I seen the big jump at the start and figured the trail to the side was just the chicken line. Anyway headed down the trail and was thinking that it was a bit hard core for an XC race and when I got to the bottom and there was a T junction with no signs my suspicions were confirmed, I had gone down the wrong trail, lost a stack of elevation and looking at Trailforks, I would have to climb back up the new Elevator trail to rejoin the course. Added about 2km and 100m to my lap. o_O
End of the day I still did 60km so I'm happy with that.

Did it say XTR on the box? The MT501 designation had me confused.

Although it was a moot point for me as they didn’t have those in stock at my local.

You need a lighter bike without all those electric gubbins - won’t burst tyres so easily ;)

Can see how you missed that junction - the whole entry off the fire trail is set up for cliffhanger and they didn’t have cliffhanger taped off, just some markers at ground level as I recall.

I just should have taken the smoother line down the side instead of plowing right through the middle. :(

I had a proper look the next lap around and seen the arrow on the post at the Y junction of Cliffhanger and Simmons Hill. It was signposted well enough, I just shouldn't have let myself get distracted by jumps in and XC race.:p

Last minute call out to do a pub ride, didn't know how I'd go after my Gravelbro ride on the weekend as this too was a Gravel adventure and it was the other side of town. Cruise into town meeting at the pub via the rail trail, a few beers and ride thru the bush to the destination pub, a couple of wrong turns and we make it! A few more beers (The whole point is we have to wait until it's dark to ride home from the pub) and all of a sudden it's 10:45pm oops, back thru the bush into town, wave goodbye to my compatriots and home on the rail trail. Pop in the shower at 12:30 after crashing around the house waking the wife. All up a lazy 75km round trip, good thing the ride home negated a few of the beers.....

I've had a look at it and there's no XTR on it anywhere, and the 501 means it's really just Deore spec, so it's my time to confess
I think I'll take it back and get the actual XT one as at least it is what it is.

Jabubu

let you google that for me
Ordered and got some industry 9 trails s hydra wheels . 1700 on the scale . Waiting for xt cassette and chain and tyres from Pushys . Combo should be a 500 gram saving over the current . Figured rotational weight on the slash is where its at . Carbon bars also incoming .
What tyres are you getting?

Threw some cheap and nasty knockoff Shimano plastic road cleats in the bin and put some real ones on.

Bliss. Can walk in the roadie shoes again without nearly dying on shiny concrete, and actually feel connected to the pedals.

Lesson learned - not all cleats are equal!

You should have known better than to think 99Bikes would list things correctly..... 501 is XTR-compatible, but only Deore-spec.
