In the continuing tick saga...


Bite site number 3 came up in a bit of a lump overnight, like a pimple I guess. It (unlike the others) had not been a problem. Whilst in the shower I was scrubbing away and I felt it...poked it...boom! Out came a piece of tick about the size of a chia seed.

Bite site number 2 is a slowly shrinking lump where my neck meets my collar bone.

Bite site number 3 now has less tick in it than it did yesterday, but...I'm pretty sure there is more to come. This was a big fucker that I hastily ripped off (using what was once the recommended removal technique of a gentle squeeze and quarter turn then pull). The site is much less iritated and slowly recovering...slowly. but I gave it an adventurous squeeze and a few things I am confident were tick body parts came out.

Last person I knew who had a tick bite was sick as a dog (poodle :D )

It was like Ross River, he was sick and farked for about 6 months, took a long time to get enough energy to go back to work.

Symptoms started to appeared a few weeks after the single bite.

I prefer the French version... crochet a tiques. Nice mesh bikini, what's it made from? Ticks.

The crochet hook works really well. A guy I worked with was in the army and deployed in Asia. He developed lyme disease from tick bites received on deployment. Took him a long time to get proper treatment because local gps kept telling him we don't get lyme disease in Oz. He was knocked around pretty badly but was fine with the right treatment.

Ticks are pretty nasty and Lyme disease is another level up that we don't need.

Would be wise to carry something in the backpack to extract these nasty little critters. You won't need it until you do.
 
Mate got Lyme disease from while working in the USA. Messed him up bad at the time and hasn't fully recovered. Seems the ticks get the bacteria from deer in the USA. Plenty of deer in the parks around here - enough for parks to have enagaged hunters for a cull.

We deal with embedded ticks here by giving them a drenching in pure tea tree oil. Like a drip off a cotton bud. Kills them almost instantly. Leave it a couple of minutes and remove deceased tick easily.

The other thing that works equally as well is the same topical cream that is used to treat for scabies mites which is called Lyclear. Dab it on the tick, wait a few minutes, remove tick, apply Betadine or similar antiseptic.

Great tip. Tea tree oil is so useful for many things. Another one to add to the list.
 
@DrGoogle specifically said not to apply oils such as tea tree or eucalyptus...or alcohol. But ether based freeze spray was recommended.

An interesting life choice to be made if you only have freeze spray handy and the little monster has latched onto your free balling knackers. :cool:.

I used to pull 2 to 3 ticks off my dogs a week here in the 80s. We used to put metho on the tick first but the best way to pull them out is with fine pinchers and grab as close as you can to the head of the tick where it touches the skin and pull straight up.
