What does your day look like?

Little victories. Had this Dell tablet laptop thingy lying around and it only some windoze shite on it. Had acquired it used a while back, and was annoyed to find the bios locked down when I tried to access the boot menu to get it to boot a new OS from a USB.

Ended up having to call Dell, which to their credit and my surprise were super helpful! They gave me a code to punch into the bios menu to nuke settings and voila - boot menu available and windows destroyed :)

Great result! Damn, we dissed Dell now have to eat our words. Credit when credit is due.
Indeed - credit where its due. Its a decent little device running Ubuntu, a useful machine for travelling etc. And for taking on work trips when IT wont provide me with a usable device that works OS... One time i was asking how I would be able to work on the plane and our IT peeps said I should just log into a remote desktop using the sim. I asked how I would do that at 33,000 feet over the indian ocean and no response... Hence I just take my own devices...

It should do all that you need. I have included a USB switch to choose between the work laptop and my recently renovated Mint machine. Mint goes well and haven't had to mess around with it much at all which suits me fine.

The sim sure isn't going to be too useful up there. I've never been high enough up the food chain to get any kind of paid internet access while in plane. Call it down time :)

We have an older Apple Macbook that Mrs owns. i tried to upgrade it to a later MacOS but it bailed with Steve Job's version of blue screen. I went down the path to sort it out but ended up giving up on it. I think I'll clobber it with Mint since it in x86 too.

Im still using a 2015 iMac, and its already two MacOS versions behind and the version its stuck on loses support this year. It still works fine and the 5K 27inch monitor is still a joy so I reckon I'll move that onto Ubuntu too in time. MacOS peaking about 5 years ago I reckon, and its been getting as buggy and annoying as windows lately...

Our one is around the same vintage. I would like to keep the MacOS on it but there isn't much need. The monitor sounds like it is worth keeping. Apple does those really well.

I wonder if it will also put up a fight to install Linux. I haven't messed around with Apple hardware much at all but it is nice looking laptop.

Well - LG does nice monitors and sells them to Apple ;) I have done some initial poking around the Ubuntu forums and it seems Apple hardware does generally play nice with Linux. Some reports of some bluetooth modules not working and assorted other quirks, but not I think any worse than the PC stuff. The camera apparently doesn't work on Dell laptops on Ubuntu.

We have a LG OLED TV here which is pretty fine so Apple choose well. Thanks for the tip and I'll have to give it go. Not like the laptop is doing much now so if most of it works thne i'll be more than happy.

More peak stupid!!! I just saw a fat man in a weight vest blasting shit music from portable speaker slung over his back riding an eeeeb at walking pace. Make up your mind fuck head! Do you want a work out or not? Do you want to hear that shitty music or just blast it at everyone else? I hope your next wank is unsatisfying.

A midweek day off...so I had an afternoon ride. The authorities undertook some burning in glenrock recently so I took a little wander through the ashes. I came across a lot of rubbish that had been under bushes for a long time (old pottery, medicine bottles, and so on). It wpuld be the perfect tine to plan out new trails! Given how much activity they have in the area and the flurry of professional trail building I am hopeful there is a plan to capitalise on this current waste land. It is obvious that whatever plants or animals were there aren't at risk of being destroyed...

After the great Canberra hailstorm of 2020, this was a little triggering :) All perfectly harmless small hail of course, way too cold for big hail - didn’t stop me hurling myself out the front door to throw blankets over the expensive car first!
