If you need to get multiple pets to Tas I can recommend Pawmobile. We where struggling to work out a solution as we where also taking the boat.Booked the first ferry for moving to Tasmania... And wont even be taking the bikes in the first car going down Still a fair way off, but suddenly wondering if I'm going to get everything packed in time!
Bit of a hassle getting the dogs down there - Kirsty is going to fly with them so its only one hour of stressing them out instead of a whole night in a cage in the hold of the boat...
Pawmobile walked us out onto the tarmac and the animals are loaded into the plane with seating arrangements the same as a commercial plane. One of our dogs was rather stressed about the whole experience so the 'air hostess' had him sit on her lap for most of the flight. It worked out cheaper to do it this way then one of us fly and one take the boat.
Only problem is someone has to collect them on the other end, I arrange for family to pick them up.
On top of the whole 1 night locked in a cage stress, the Spirit of Tasmania also comes with the dangers of losing your pet. The area they are kept in has an air circulation problem.
Pets regularly fall ill/die on the trip and Spirit are aware of this. The last time an animal died they said 'your dog escaped our cage and went missing on the boat.. we will not comment any further.'
I know I kinda sound conspiracy level paranoia about it but they have killed everything from family pets to racehorses.
Storage is near the area the trucks park, no ventilation and fills up with exhaust fumes.
