Mine's just cut it short, anywhere from 5-8 on top, and something a bit shorter on the sides and let it grow till it's a pain to deal with, at which point I cut it short again, which is usually no longer than about 3 months.

I use to rep the hair past the ears and over the eyes bed hair look. now i have rather short hair with a comb over. no gel. no wax. no hair products. salt water does the trick.

I used to be a shaggy haired git but it's so much easier to manage having it trimmed short. I have to wash it every two days or so though, because it's thin and gets really greasy super quick.
