Workshop Stands

I have one, that RRP of 229 is a load of crap. They sold them at ALDI once for 40 bucks. I know that the shop I work at sells them at 120 RRP usually.
They work, the clamps are a bit cumbersome to use as its a wind up dial rather than a lever to clamp with.
If it's just home mechanic stuff they're alright. My only concern is the clamp that stops the rotation of the bike's front wheel downwards towards the floor is not tight enough in mine for my downhill bike. Although the front wheel still clears the floor easily. That's why it comes with that bracing bar, which as I pinched mine off a mate I did not get.

I got one at aldi and it's fine for my needs. As said before the rotation clamp is a bit weak but it does the job as a light home stand

I paid $30 for one of ebay. Mine cannot hold my DH bike or my AM bike without falling to the floor. I have bolted the rotation clamp through, along with the metal rod that it attches to the mainframe. If you are paying $30 for it, then go for it! Any more and in my opinion you would just be wasting your money.

I got an Aldi one. Didn't expect much for $40. If the bike is balanced it's ok, ie clamped on top tube but swings down at the front when clamped by seat post. It's also great for sometihing like stripping a frame, plenty of directional adjustment, easy to reposition.
More heavy duty work goes to my other stand - like this one http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=5209 I''m happy that it doen't clamp on the carbon seatpost oor on the frame.

just a heads up, but t7 also has that stand at a crc price.

Though i have the copy version - which seems by far the most common one at races I see around

though i suspect most owners are like me at bought it at $50 or thereabouts on special - I'd go the park - it might be exactly the same unit for all i know, but you gotta hope that park respect their own brand a bit when it comes to quality.

So is the park one you mention here better than the union one you've mentioned? I have the union one, and although it holds my dh and all others fine, the plastic teeth on the rotation cup are pretty loose now and it doesn't like holding the full bike up much.. i'm looking for something that holds it without groaning under the load and making me think it's gonna give way any minute. cheers n sorry for the hijack..

i'd expect the park one to be better, but i dont have any experience with it . the professional park tools stands are circa $400

If you look at the two side by side the park and the union ones are identical besides the clamp. The clamp is the most important park of the stand to be honest so I'd imagine the park one to be much more solid.
Just a comparison between Park and the cheap ripoff brands.
I've used two stands that are identical in every aspect, even the clamps are the same design and even though we added a second head to the park one as opposed to buying a two headed stand straight out like we did with the cheaper stand (workshop stand bolted into floor hence double headed.) The Park one feels miles better and the only thing that has needed to be replaced is the grips on the clamp, whereas the cheaper one's clamp for the rotation of the bike has started to fail after a year, not to mention the clamp seems clunky.

But then again, you are paying for the park brand name in some instances I'd imagine.
