Haha. Well I wasn't talking in retro terms.
Continuing your analogy with contemporary examples though, in 1989, there wasn't a much better vehicle for a fraction of the cost; arguably compared to this lairy Eurotrash derailleur there probably are much better current options for a fraction of the cost.

Sub 1000g is amazing, where 25g lighter isn't, and thats scarcely any pricier than the DT carbon wheelset.
